The U.S. Department of State has announced the reasons for the delay of the Diversity Visa lottery and introduced new rules aimed at combating fraud.
In 2023, approximately 2.5 million fake applications were detected. Fraudsters registered people without their consent, then demanded money for the "win" or imposed fictitious marriages.
Key Innovations:
• Mandatory foreign passport. A scanned copy of the page with your photo and signature must be attached to the application (JPEG, up to 5 MB).
• Registration fee: $1.
• More time to complete the form: Instead of 30 minutes, applicants now have up to 90 minutes (due to document upload and payment).
Timeline:
• The new rules take effect on April 10, 2026.
• The DV-2027 lottery (postponed from October 2025) must be held by September 30, 2026.
