📄 An Employee’s Duty to Protect Confidential Business Information
Employees are entrusted with access to confidential business information throughout the course of their employment. This may include customer data, technical know-how, trade secrets, pricing strategies, financial records, and other proprietary information that is essential to the employer’s business.
The obligation to protect confidential information does not necessarily end when the employment relationship ends. Unauthorized disclosure, copying, or use of confidential business information may expose former or current employees to civil claims for damages and, where applicable, criminal liability.
Both employers and employees should clearly define confidentiality obligations through employment contracts and internal policies to ensure legal certainty and protect legitimate business interests.
