Comparing the major cities of Thailand

Thailand is known as a world-class tourist destination, but many people may think twice when visiting Thailand. Along with moving to Thailand, the question of which area to live in is always a hot topic. Bangkok, the capital city, is a convenient city where many Japanese live, but why not consider the northern tourist cities of Pattaya or Chiang Mai as an alternative?

(Bangko)

Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, is now a vibrant metropolis. There are many jobs for Japanese people, so it is also recommended for those who want to stay on a work visa. Thailand prices are the highest, metropolitan prices you’ll pay to live in a city that’s quite convenient for living abroad.

The Japanese community is active and has a lot of entertainment, so you will be able to lead an active lifestyle. Japanese cuisine is extremely popular among Thais, so finding authentic dishes to your liking is no problem.

(Pattaya)

Described by some as heaven on earth, Pattaya is a resort town about two hours east of Bangkok by car.
Most of the pensioners are from the European region, and you can live a relaxing life on the beach, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Since it is a resort and tourist destination, the cost of living is a bit higher than other regional cities, but if you have 200,000 yen a month, you can go and travel a few times a week.

(Chiang Mai)

Chiang Mai is a quiet local northern city where the cost of living is cheaper than Bangkok and many Japanese who have received retirement visas. As the ancient capital of Thailand, it is popular with tourists and has many hospitals and restaurants with Japanese interpreters. In recent years, Chiang Mai, known as the holy land of nomads, has seen many co-working spaces, and you’ll often see young Europeans, Americans and Japanese in town with laptops. Compared to Bangkok, Chiang Mai is a quiet city surrounded by nature and popular as a vacation area.

In short, it’s best to be aware and set realistic expectations when you plan to visit Thailand. It requires getting used to living without tap water and the presence of exotic insects from Southeast Asia. There are also language and cultural barriers, so a short stay or trip to Thailand is recommended before leaving Japan.

Bangkok ranked second best city for Digital nomads.

Bangkok, Thailand has been ranked as the second best city in the world and the best city in Asia to work for digital nomads. Ranked by ‘The Instant Group’, a UK based flexible working solutions provider.

“It is a great honor for Bangkok and Thailand to be recognized in such a way as a city with modernity, connectivity, and affordability. This also helps TAT reach its goal for the ‘2022 Amazing New Chapter campaign to grow the Digital Nomad travel sector” said Mr.Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor.

Why and how is Bangkok ranked as the number 2 best city in the world?
Scoring for the rankings was based on key city factors, with Bangkok scoring highly on affordability, internet speed, weather, transportation and scenery. In a global ranking of 80 cities for digital nomads, Bangkok’s total score is second only to Lisbon, Portugal, and is one of only 2 cities in Asia to feature in the world’s top 10 cities survey, along with Seoul, Korea in 7th place.

Bangkok is a perfect city for digital nomads for the following main reasons:

More than 15,000 high-speed Wi-Fi hotspots
One of the lowest-priced accommodations available globally
Excellent local cuisine and street food
Weather – Sunshine all year round
Natural scenery – Mountains, beaches, forests, and local attractions
Many globally famous Thai cities provide an ideal setup for digital nomads such as Bangkok as well as Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya and Samui.

Digital nomad current situation
Research shows that there are approximately 35 million digital nomads worldwide and predicts that the nomadic workforce is 1 nomad : 3 employees. With the advancement of technology, it complements the remote workplace culture and remote work and by 2035, it is believed that the number could reach one billion.

What are the main concerns of living in Thailand?
To perfect your long-term digital nomad life in Thailand, one most important factor is that you should be able to stay and work in Thailand with the least amount of hassle possible, and one of the most annoying problems is always about a ‘What type of visa should I use?’Of course, it is easy to come to Thailand and stay for 30-60 days, but if you are planning to have Thailand as your main work location for a long time, you will need some other type of visa. Being a digital nomad, you cannot get a business visa (non-immigrant B) as it requires you to be a full-time employee. An education visa also works, but then you have to attend classes you may not want. A volunteer visa is available, but many volunteer visas were issued to a non-existing/created foundation and may cause problems for your future stay due to immigration office restrictions.

The solution to a hassle-free lifestyle in Thailand as a digital nomad?
The Thailand Elite Program provides you with a 5-20 year Privilege Entry Visa (a special multiple entry visa) and other exclusive benefits that favor Thailand’s digital nomad lifestyle, including, VIP airport welcome service with elite personal assistant, 90-day report service, 24/7 Member services, open a Thai bank account, get a Thai driving license, airport limousine service and more.

The Thailand Elite application can be done exclusively online/email, so there is no need to worry about submitting documents, waiting in line for hours to submit applications and such issues.
