🇹🇭 Can foreigners legally work in Thailand without a work permit?
Thailand does not offer a general list of ordinary jobs that foreigners can perform without permission. Exemptions depend on the person’s visa, official status, type of assignment and employer.
SMART-S holders may work in their certified Thai startup without a separate permit. Diplomats and certain international officials are also exempt, while foreign specialists undertaking urgent or one-off assignments may use a notification process for work lasting up to 15 days.
Remote workers have different rules. DTV holders and LTR Work-from-Thailand Professionals can work remotely for qualifying overseas employers, but these visas do not give them permission to accept a job with a Thai company.
Marriage to a Thai citizen, permanent residence, company ownership or unpaid work does not automatically remove the requirement. Working illegally can lead to fines of up to 50,000 baht and removal from Thailand.
