On the topic “From Ideas to Assets: Understanding Intellectual Property to Create Value in Design”, Dr. Pollawat emphasized the importance of intellectual property (IP) for designers and marketers—empowering them to protect, leverage, and create sustainable value from their creative works.

The Department of Intellectual Property, Ministry of Commerce, is advancing its policy to transform intellectual property into financial assets (IP Financing) through collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), financial institutions, research institutes, government agencies, and the private sector.

A strategic forum, “Thailand IP Finance & Valuation Connect 2026,” was held to exchange perspectives and drive a major shift in the modern trade and financial ecosystem, positioning intellectual property as a key driver.

We are proud to share that Dr.Pollawat Suppattarasaet, Intellectual Property and Innovation Partner, joined the forum as the representative of ILAWASIA—the only Thai law firm invited to participate in this landmark initiative.

The event also marked the launch of the IP Finance Sandbox, a prototype ecosystem designed to promote the comprehensive commercial utilization of intellectual property. It took place on 20 January 2026 at the Grand Centre Point Terminal 21, Bangkok.

Laos has issued Notice No. 3988/MOIC.sec (December 17, 2025), introducing mandatory E‑Commerce registration via the E‑Trust system, effective February 1, 2026. The Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA) is supporting Thailand’s digital workforce by certifying employees with advanced technology skills under Revenue Department Notification No. 461, which grants companies enhanced tax incentives. Eligible corporate taxpayers can claim up to 150% of salary expenses for qualified employees, capped at THB 100,000 per person per month for up to 12 months. This measure encourages investment in digital talent and upskilling, strengthening Thailand’s digital economy and competitiveness.

On 27 October 2025, Myanmar’s Intellectual Property Department (IPD) announced that patents first filed domestically before foreign filings will undergo substantive examination at the Foreign Intellectual Property Office in collaboration with IPD. Procedures, requirements, and fees are not yet issued, and Myanmar must build expertise and capacity to conduct independent examinations and support international filings of patents, trademarks, industrial designs, and copyrights.
