We extend our heartfelt condolences to all those affected by the earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand. We are deeply saddened by the devastation caused by the disaster. Thankfully all the people we are connected to in both our Myanmar and Thai offices are safe and well. We urge for strength and cooperation as both our countries build back better for a more resilient future.

Our boutique M. Ravi Law consultancy, ESG Asia (An Initiative by M. Ravi Law) is going places!

I am thrilled to announce that we will be joined by experienced ESG and sustainability practitioner, Temiloluwa Lawal from Nigeria, thus allowing our consultancy to reach clients in Pan-Africa and provide solutions there. Temi will join our team of existing external consultants as our expert based in Africa. He is an impact-minded lawyer committed to harnessing the power of law to create a more just, equitable and sustainable future.

He regularly advises MNCs, government bodies and non-profit organisations on cross-border ESG and sustainability regulations by translating complex legal and policy frameworks into actionable strategies for positive global impact and sustainable development. He is especially skilled in legal risk management, sustainability strategy, research, analysis, and advocacy. He thrives at advising on legal and ESG/sustainability risks, opportunities, disclosures and compliance; and new and evolving technical areas of sustainability-related law, even when precedents are scarce or non-existent.

Temi often creates informative content on ESG and sustainability topics and publishes them in LinkedIn. He has had a stellar career focused on these subjects over many years with different world-class organisations.

Our immediate goal is to guide African entities trying to navigate ESG and sustainability global standards so that they can trade with and operate compliantly overseas and to support overseas entities looking to enter the African market and understand related opportunities.

With Temi joining us with effect from January 2025, we will soon be rebranding ESG Asia as ESG Asia & Africa.

Attending the United Nations Responsible Business and Human Rights Forum for the next 4 days. The focus of this year’s conference is : The Remedy Blueprint, Bridging Gaps and Accelerating Access. The remedy and grievance mechanisms for workers locally and in the supply chains in the Asia Pacific take centrestage in the discussions.

Just met Phil Robertson ( pic ) who was the former director of Human Rights Watch . He has been supportive of my human rights work in Singapore over the years.

Its a great conference with lots of issues to brainstorm that helps to sharpen my lens on my ESG consulting work and to connect with colleagues in the region.

It was great to meet our ESG Thai colleague, lawyer Bhatarapong over lunch to catch up and discuss our ESG projects which M. Ravi Law ( Thailand ) has been recently instructed . Bhatarapong just returned from Berlin where he is doing a research paper on the European Directives on supply chains. ESG is a highly dynamic field where one has to be on top of the latest trends and evolving legal landscape to render effective representation to our clients. Often we are confronted with the challenges to harmonise the ESG related laws and policies in various countries in Asia and Africa with those from Europe and US. Harmonise meaning -no greenwashing and no cutting corners .
