The Republic’s economy expanded 5.7 per cent year on year (yoy) in the second quarter of 2026, easing from the previous quarter’s 6.3 per cent, advance estimates from the Ministry of Trade and Industry showed on Tuesday (Jul 14) morning.

On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, gross domestic product rose 1.1 per cent, extending the 1.3 per cent growth recorded in the first quarter.

Singapore residents love new condo homes. Some recent major condo launches have achieved sales rates exceeding 80 per cent or even 90 per cent during their launch weekends.

Meanwhile, various new condo launches have set benchmark prices in their locations. A new condo unit might fetch a premium of 40 per cent or more on a per square foot (psf) basis over a resale unit nearby.

With only one new project launch in May, developers in Singapore sold 447 private homes in the month, hitting a three-month low, well below the 1,548 units transacted in April.

Still, the latest May sales figure – which excludes executive condominiums (ECs) – was 43.3 per cent higher than the 312 units moved in the same month the year before, data released by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) showed on Monday (Jun 15).

Amid rising private home prices, developers here are increasingly adept at fitting more bedrooms into compact spaces.

Fresh restrictions on the executive condominium (EC) market are expected to steer buyers towards the last batch of projects exempt from the rules, while cooling developers’ appetite for upcoming EC land tenders.

In a move to rein in soaring EC prices and temper land bids, the government on Friday (May 8) announced that the minimum occupation period (MOP) for EC units will now be extended to 10 years. Previously, the MOP before an owner could sell their unit was five years.
