Theatre Studies & Drama, Tampines Meridian Junior College

Theatre Studies & Drama, Tampines Meridian Junior College Welcome to the Drama Elective Programme (DEP) at Tampines Meridian Junior College (TMJC). Every profession looks for these life skills.

'When an actor is completely absorbed by some profoundly moving objective so that he throws his whole being passionately into its execution, he reaches a state we call inspiration.' - Constantin Stanislavski Students of DEP undertake the rigorous H2 Theatre Studies & Drama (TSD). This unique course encourages learners to carry out extensive research for both individual and group performances. TSD

students (or TSDians as they fondly call themselves) are passionately devoted to their art. Learning takes place in weekly praxis workshops focusing on performative skills, complemented by seminar-style discussions and analysis of dramatic texts. Performance methods covered in workshops and external master-classes range from the canonical practitioners such as Stanislavski, Grotowski, Brecht, Boal, to more contemporary influences like Suzuki method and Viewpoints. Students will also gain knowledge in a wide-range of exciting theatrical traditions (e.g. Commedia Dell’arte, Dance-Theatre, Butoh) and examine how Art movements (e.g. Russian Constructivism, Surrealism, Expressionism) interact with theatrical forms. Beyond the classroom, students are expected to read vigorously to develop a niche area for their Individual Skill practical assessment. TSD aims to inculcate vital 21st century competencies such as responsible decision-making, cross-culture awareness, self-directed learning, and active contribution. Indeed, TSD opens doors to many opportunities, as evident in our diverse alumni active in arts management, performance, journalism, law, literary studies, business, and design. Theatre Studies and Drama Elective Programme (TSD)

Explore the human experience through the conceptualisation, staging and reception of theatrical events and dramatic texts. You will be immersed in an independent learning culture, grow as a leader, while creating your art and taking ownership of your craft.

Our learning takes place within a blended learning environment, where you will take part in weekly practical workshops, complemented by seminar-style praxis lessons. Workshops explore performance methods from canonical practitioners such as Stanislavski and Brecht, to more contemporary influences like Suzuki, Viewpoints and Frantic Assembly.

Together, as a team of dedicated teachers, supportive parents, and encouraging peers, we strive to develop a community of student-artists and learners who are committed and devoted in empowering you to do your best in your craft, while remaining grounded to your personal voice.

At TMJC TSD, we believe that you are unique. We aim to embolden our young student-artists to be critical thinkers about the world around you through a values-driven education. We want you to be responsible and resilient decision-makers who are self-directed in your endeavours - culturally aware, and active in your contribution to the communities around you.

We strive to promote an inclusive learning environment with a community of students from a diverse range of backgrounds. We look forward to welcoming you to this exciting journey with us!

Earlier this morning, our Juniors had the wonderful experience of presenting a dramatised reading of Robert Yeo's The Eye of History as part of Esplanade's In Youthful Company.

They had the priviledge to meet and have a discussion with the playwright himself!

The students also had the opportunity to go on a backstage tour of the Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay :)
