The second edition of the WongPartnership Transaction Competition has come to a close! In the preliminary round, 38 teams signed up, totalling to 76 participants. The final round conducted on 18 July, was judged by Ng Wai King (Managing Partner, WongPartnership), Khoo Ken Hui (Director, Legal & Regulatory, Temasek) and Karen Wee (Deputy General Counsel, Singtel).

After many gruelling rounds of negotiation, SMU Corporate and Commercial Law Club is proud to announce the results of the WongPartnership Transaction Competition 2022!

This year’s winner is Team 36, consisting of Vinessa Martin and Evangeline Koh! This team was also awarded Best Negotiators.

Congratulations to the other finalist team: Team 16, consisting of Seth Tay and Mervyn Lin!

We would like to thank WongPartnership for making this event possible and our distinguished judges for gracing the event, making it an exciting one for all participants and spectators. A big shout-out to SMU School of Law for their assistance in the organisation of this competition. Lastly, we would like to thank all the participants for their hard work in their preparation for the competition!

After an exciting Grand Final on Thursday, SMU Corporate and Commercial Law Club is proud to announce the results of the inaugural WongPartnership Transaction Competition 2021.

Out of 92 participants from 46 teams, Team 3, consisting of Alicia Seah and Melvinder Singh, has emerged as the Champions, with Melvinder winning the award for Best Negotiator!

SMU CoCo would like to take this opportunity to thank WongPartnership LLP for their support and sponsorship of this competition. Additionally, we would like to thank our distinguished judges for their presence and for playing their part in making this competition exciting for observers and participants alike. Finally, a big shout-out to SMU Yong Pung How School of Lawand the faculty for assisting the team in the organising of this competition.

After battling it out in the finals, SMU Corporate and Commercial Law Club is proud to announce the results of the Restructuring Negotiation Competition, organized by SMU and supported by BlackOak LLC!

This year’s winner is TEAM 29, consisting of Charmaine Chong, Izzat Rashad B Rosazizi, Caleb Cheng, and Heidi Chiu!

SMU Corporate and Commercial Law Club is proud to reveal the esteemed panel of judges for the Final Round of the Restructuring Negotiation Competition 2021! They are the Honourable Justice Kannan Ramesh from the Supreme Court, Mr Ashok Kumar from BlackOak LLC, Mr Richard Woodworth from Allen & Overy, Prof David Llewelyn from SMU Yong Pung How School of Law, and Ms Angelina Bopp from MUFG Bank Limited, Singapore. Dear Law Students,

We are pleased to announce that SMU Corporate and Commercial Law Club will once again host the BlackOak Transactional Negotiation Competition, but only this time, via Zoom! Stand a chance to win $2,000 and gain knowledge in deal-making and negotiations.

If you are interested to find out more about corporate restructuring and insolvency, this is the competition for you! This competition serves to spark your interest in this area of practice, while putting you through intense rounds of negotiations. You and your team will have to devise probable solutions and use sound negotiating strategies that will best convince a panel of creditors.

Do note that the competition is only open to first, second, and third-year SMU and NUS law undergraduates, as well as first-year and second-year SMU J.D. students and NUS approved graduate programme students. Students are required to form teams of 3 to 4 students, with a maximum of 1 third-year LLB or second-year JD student.

As the competition will be held virtually this year, do make sure that all team members are able to access Zoom for the round(s).

Only one member is required to fill up the form on behalf of the team.

The Problem Statement and Rule Book has also just been released today via email/Telegram (SMU) and FB/Telegram (NUS)! Do join our telegram channel to receive further updates!

Preliminaries: 20/ 21 August (Thurs/Fri)
Semi Finals: 28 August (Fri)
Finals: 2 September (Wed)
