UN Special Rapporteur on torture, Alice Edwards, issued the following statement today on Dr. Djalali's urgent case in Iran —
"He went to Iran as a disaster expert. Sweden and Iran must find a solution for his case! His continuing detention is a scandal for both countries. I call on Iran to release him without delay. And if I haven't said it loudly enough, let me say it loudly: DO NOT TRAVEL TO IRAN! They are the world's leader in hostage diplomacy, which the General Assembly last year declared to be a form of torture or other ill-treatment, thanks to my report on the same subject."
Shame on Sweden for not doing anything, for leaving Djalali behind! The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden must learn from other Western countries that seem to better succeed bringing their hostages home.
See a debate article that was published about this a few months ago. Unfortunately to deaf ears.
