The Kosciuszko Foundation awards up to $12,000 to students of Polish descent.
The Polish government will fund a complete Master's degree — tuition, monthly stipend, travel allowance — for anyone who can document Polish roots.
Most Polish-American and Polish-diaspora families have no idea any of this exists.
We pulled together every Polish heritage scholarship we could find across the US, Canada, UK, and Australia — plus the Polish government NAWA programs that fund full degrees in Poland. Funding routes specifically to descendants of Polish émigrés every year. The information just lives scattered across organizational websites, fraternal society newsletters, and consular pages, so families don't find it.

📜 The second written constitution in world history. The first in Europe. In force for fourteen months.
3 May 1791. The Senate Hall of the Royal Castle in Warsaw. The Four-Year Sejm passes the Government Act, the second written constitutional document in the world after the American one, four months before the French.
Liberum veto abolished. Constitutional separation of powers. Townspeople granted political rights. Peasants placed "under the protection of the law" for the first time.
Edmund Burke called it "the noblest benefit received by any nation at any time." Fourteen months later, Russia invaded. Within four years, Poland disappeared from the maps of Europe for 123 years.
And yet, through those 123 years of bans, through the PRL, through every emigration, the date was remembered. The Chicago parade since 1892. Mass at Częstochowa. In 1990 Poland formally restored the holiday.

3 maja 1791. Sala Senatorska Zamku Królewskiego w Warszawie. Sejm Czteroletni przyjmuje Ustawę Rządową, drugi pisany dokument konstytucyjny po amerykańskim, na cztery miesiące przed francuskim.

🇵🇱 2 May 2002. Poland passed a holiday for its diaspora before it passed one for its flag.
That sequence tells you everything about how Poland sees itself.
The Day of the Polish Diaspora and Poles Abroad came first, on 20 March 2002. Flag Day came two years later, in February 2004. Shared date: 2 May, sitting between Labor Day and Constitution Day.
The 2002 preamble names you directly. "In recognition of the centuries-long contribution of the Polish Diaspora and Poles abroad to Poland's regaining of independence."
If your grandmother spoke Polish at home, if your last name ends in -ski or -wicz, this holiday was created for you. Literally. By the Polish parliament.
About 20 million people of Polish descent live outside Poland. Half the resident population. The full diaspora.

No parade. No flag on the Reichstag. No crowds. Just Poland's formal entry into the European Union alongside nine other countries, the largest enlargement in EU history.
For Poles born after 1989, this date has slowly displaced the older meanings of 1 May. The PRL-era parades. International Workers' Day rooted in Haymarket 1886. The Catholic feast of St. Joseph the Worker added in 1955.
Modern 1 May in Poland carries all three layers at once. Because that's what Poland always does. It stacks meanings instead of replacing them.

Whole Poland counts zero calories today... is it real? 🍩🇵🇱

It sounds like a myth, but it’s 100% true! Today is Fat Thursday (Tłusty Czwartek), the one day of the year where the entire country agrees that calories simply don't exist.

Tradition says that if you don't eat at least one pączek today, you’ll have bad luck for the rest of the year. (And who wants to risk that, right?)

On average, every Pole will enjoy three of these today. I’m keeping it classic with the rose jam—it's the gold standard.
