Mr. Shafqat Raheem Rajput, Member, Sindh Bar Council, strongly condemns the illegal, arbitrary and unlawful arrest of Mr. Ghulam Shabbir Soomro, Advocate High Court. The arrest of a practicing Advocate without lawful justification is a blatant abuse of authority and an attack on the independence and dignity of the legal fraternity.
The legal community has always stood for the supremacy of the Constitution, the rule of law and the protection of fundamental rights. Any attempt to harass, intimidate or unlawfully detain an Advocate amounts to interference with the administration of justice and cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.
The SSP concerned, the DIGP concerned and the IGP Sindh are called upon to take immediate notice of this unlawful action, ensure the immediate and unconditional release of Mr. Ghulam Shabbir Soomro, Advocate High Court, and initiate action against all officers responsible for his illegal arrest and detention.
It is made clear that if Mr. Ghulam Shabbir Soomro, Advocate High Court, is not released forthwith, the legal fraternity, under the leadership of the Bar, shall be compelled to launch a peaceful but strong protest in accordance with law. The responsibility for any disruption caused by such protest shall rest entirely upon the concerned police authorities for their failure to uphold the law and protect the rights of a member of the legal profession.
The legal fraternity stands united with Mr. Ghulam Shabbir Soomro, Advocate High Court, and reiterates its unwavering commitment to defend the independence of the Bar and the rule of law
