Implementation, Universal Declaration of Human Rights (IUDHR) Endorses UN Secretary-General’s Call for Immediate De-escalation in the Middle East
CARY, NC — The Implementation, Universal Declaration of Human Rights (IUDHR), under the leadership of President Dr. Baber George, officially issues its full endorsement of the statement delivered today by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres during the emergency Security Council meeting regarding the volatile situation in the Middle East.
In a powerful address to the Security Council, Secretary-General Guterres warned that military actions carry the grave risk of "igniting a chain of events that no one can control." He emphasized that "lasting peace can only be achieved through peaceful means, including genuine dialogue and negotiations."
IUDHR Statement of Support
As an organization dedicated to the global advancement of the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, IUDHR stands in firm solidarity with the Secretary-General’s call for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
“The path of military escalation only leads to the erosion of human dignity and the loss of innocent lives,” stated Dr. Baber George. “IUDHR echoes the Secretary-General’s warning that there is no viable alternative to the peaceful settlement of international disputes. We call upon all Member States to respect international law, uphold national sovereignty, and return to the diplomatic negotiations that were previously showing progress.”
Key Pillars of the Endorsement:
Protection of Civilians: IUDHR highlights the Secretary-General’s concern regarding civilian casualties and reinforces the absolute necessity for all parties to adhere to international humanitarian law.
Restoration of Diplomacy: We urge a return to the negotiating table, specifically regarding regional stability and the nuclear program, to prevent further "squandered diplomacy."
Global Responsibility: IUDHR calls on the international community to support the UN’s efforts to stabilize the most volatile region in the world before the "chain of events" becomes irreversible.
The IUDHR remains committed to its mission of ensuring that the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights are not just words on paper, but a lived reality for all, especially in times of global crisis.
