Hina’s tragic death is deeply heartbreaking. Behind every such case is not just a news story, but a daughter, a sister, a friend, and a family whose life is changed forever. My deepest sympathies are with Hina’s family. May Allah grant her forgiveness and give her loved ones strength to bear this unbearable loss.

What happened to Hina, like the tragic cases of Noor Mukadam, Sarah Inam and so many other women, should make all of us stop and think.

One important lesson is this: before getting married, do your homework.

If a person has been married before and is divorced, do not simply accept the statement that “the marriage did not work.” Ask reasonable questions. See the divorce documents. Get them verified. Try to understand why the previous marriage ended. Speak to people who genuinely know the circumstances, where appropriate.

This is not about judging a divorced person or assuming that the divorced person is at fault. People get divorced for many different reasons. It is about knowing enough about someone’s past before making a decision that can affect your entire life.

And after marriage, never ignore abuse.

If someone hits you, threatens you, humiliates you, controls you or repeatedly behaves violently, do not convince yourself that it was “just one time” or that marriage will automatically change them.

The first incident of abuse should be taken seriously.

Families also have a huge responsibility. When a daughter or sister comes home and says, “He hit me,” “He threatens me,” or “I am not safe,” please do not tell her to simply go back and adjust.

Do not ask, “What will people say?”

Do not make her feel that leaving an abusive marriage is a bigger shame than suffering inside it.

Listen to her. Believe her. Keep her safe. Help her understand her legal options and stand beside her.

Marriage is not a race that a woman has to win at any cost. It is not a trophy that she has to protect even at the cost of her dignity, safety or life.

A marriage can end. A woman’s life cannot be replaced.

Hina’s death should not become just another tragic headline that we forget after a few days. We owe it to women like Hina, Noor and Sarah to learn, to speak, to act and to make sure that women are taken seriously when they say they are in danger.

May Hina rest in peace. May her family find strength, and may justice be done.

Happy to share that I have completed my Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Law and Policy.

Since I deal with environmental cases, I wanted to learn more and improve my understanding of this area. This diploma helped me build my knowledge and gave me a better understanding of environmental laws and policies.

I’m grateful for this learning journey and feel more confident in handling environmental cases in a better and more effective way.
