⚖️ Government Significantly Increases Diyat (Blood Money) Amount Due to Rise in Silver Prices, Issues New Notification
The federal government has significantly increased the amount of diyat (blood money), nearly doubling it. According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Finance, this increase has been made due to the rising prices of silver, as under Pakistani law, the diyat amount is determined based on the current market price of 30,630 grams of silver.
According to the new notification, the diyat amount for the fiscal year 2026-27 has been raised to 19,343,542 rupees (approximately 1 crore 93 lakh rupees), whereas in the previous fiscal year, it was 9,828,670 rupees. Thus, over the course of one year, the prescribed diyat amount has nearly doubled.
Under the law, this amount is paid to the legal heirs of the victim in murder cases as diyat, provided the matter is settled on diyat in accordance with the law. The government determines this amount afresh every year, taking into account the current price of silver.
