PROJECT TLG: Tulong. Lingap. Gabay.
People. Purpose. Justice.

On 18 September 2026, The Law Group had the privilege of conducting Project TLG: Tulong. Lingap. Gabay. at BJMP San Jose del Monte, Bulacan—a legal outreach initiative providing legal orientation and individual consultations to Persons Deprived of Liberty.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the JCINSP Cherifer B. Apostol, the jail warden, the officers, and personnel of BJMP San Jose del Monte for warmly welcoming our team and for their invaluable coordination and support throughout the activity. Your partnership made it possible for our lawyers to reach those who needed legal information, guidance, and a clearer understanding of the legal process.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to the Enriquez Family for generously sponsoring the lunch of the participating PDLs. Thank you for sharing in the spirit of service behind this project and for helping us make the day a little more meaningful for everyone involved.

And to the lawyers and staff of The Law Group—congratulations and thank you. From weeks of preparation and coordination to the legal orientation, consultations, logistics, documentation, and every task behind the scenes, this project was made possible because of your willingness to serve beyond the walls of the office.

Project TLG reminds us that access to justice can begin with something simple but important: helping someone understand where they are in the legal process, what comes next, and where they can seek proper guidance.

We hope this will be the first of many opportunities for Tulong. Lingap. at Gabay.

⚖️Thinking of filing for “annulment”? ⚖️

The process actually starts long before the petition reaches the court.

A strong case begins with the right preparation: understanding your marriage history, determining the proper legal remedy, gathering the necessary documents and evidence, identifying possible witnesses, and organizing the facts that will support your petition.

And remember: what people commonly call an “annulment” may actually require an Annulment or a Declaration of Nullity of Marriage, depending on the circumstances. That is why an early legal assessment matters.

If you are considering taking this step, you do not have to figure out the process on your own. Start with clarity. Know your options. Prepare properly.

Signed na ang sales documents. Does that automatically mean ownership—and the risk of loss—already transferred?

Not necessarily.

In Norkis Distributors, Inc. v. Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court distinguished the perfection of a sale from delivery.

The approved brief states that transfer of ownership requires an act coupled with the necessary intent, and that on the facts of the case, the risk remained with the seller.

The practical lesson is important for buyers and sellers: do not assume that signing a sales document alone answers every question about ownership, delivery, or risk.

Look at what was actually delivered, when it was delivered, what the parties intended, and the surrounding transaction documents.

The fact that risk remained with the seller in Norkis was tied to the facts before the Court and should not be presented as a universal allocation rule for every sale.

When buying valuable property, do you document the actual date and manner of delivery?

Can citizens ask for records involving government transactions? In appropriate circumstances, yes.

In Chavez v. Public Estates Authority, the Supreme Court addressed the constitutional right to information in relation to government acts and transactions.

The approved brief states that the right reaches official acts and definite government deals, subject to lawful exceptions.

The case also recognizes constitutional limitations involving transfers of public-domain land.

For the public, the practical lesson is to make requests concrete: identify the records connected with a specific official action or government transaction.

At the same time, the right to information is not unlimited. Lawful confidentiality, privilege, and other recognized exceptions may restrict access to particular records.

So “government document” does not automatically mean “every document must be disclosed.”

For a disputed records request, identify precisely what was requested, the government action involved, and the reason given for withholding the information.

In a drug case, proving that an item was seized is only part of the evidentiary story.

In People v. Lim Ching, the Supreme Court emphasized the importance of an accounted chain of custody.

According to the approved brief, where deviations from the prescribed handling process are invoked, there must be specific proof explaining the justification and showing that the identity and integrity of the evidence were not compromised.

Why does this matter? The item tested and presented in court must reliably be connected to the item originally seized.

Unexplained gaps in handling can therefore become legally significant.

The practical lesson is careful documentation of every transfer, custody step, and relevant deviation.

The calendar also notes that later En Banc clarifications—including rules involving inventory witnesses and justified deviations—must be considered when presenting this doctrine today.

A particular drug case should be assessed from the actual custody records and evidence.

Why is documenting every transfer important when physical evidence changes hands?

Someone privately obtained messages from an account. Automatic bang excluded from evidence?

Not under the particular facts examined in Cadajas v. People.

The approved brief states that the constitutional exclusionary rule did not bar the messages obtained by private persons in that case, and that shared access also affected the claimed expectation of privacy.

But this ruling should not be simplified into “private persons can use any message they obtain.”

Consent, who had access, statutory privacy rules, cybercrime issues, authenticity, hearsay, and other evidentiary rules can still change the legal result.

That is why the specific facts of Cadajas are essential to a responsible explanation of the case.

If electronic messages are involved in a dispute, preserve the original device or files, account information, and circumstances showing how access occurred.

Do not publicly upload sensitive conversations simply to ask whether they are admissible.

Do you think people sometimes confuse constitutional privacy rules with every other evidence rule?

May will—and may family dispute. Does probate immediately decide every inheritance question?

Usually, no.

In Dy Yieng Seangio v. Reyes, the Supreme Court explained that probate ordinarily begins by examining the extrinsic validity of the will.

The approved brief also states that testate settlement takes precedence over intestate settlement of the same estate.

That means the first stage of a will case is not necessarily where every dispute over entitlement, ownership, or inheritance is finally resolved.

The practical lesson is procedural: when a will exists, start with the proper probate process rather than assuming the estate should simply proceed as though there were no will.

Families should organize the will, death certificate, property documents, and relevant estate records early.

Because succession disputes often involve several separate legal questions, avoid treating one probate ruling as automatically deciding every issue among the heirs.

Did you know probate does not necessarily decide every inheritance issue at the first stage?
