Today, we honor the life and legacy of Chief Justice Jose Abad Santosโ€”a proud Fernandino, Kapampangan, and Filipino. Born in San Fernando, Pampanga, on February 19, 1886, his unwavering integrity and nationalism led him to the highest seat in the Philippine judiciary.

He ultimately made the supreme sacrifice in Lanao del Sur on May 2, 1942, remaining steadfast in his moral convictions until the very end. His last words, "๐˜๐˜ต ๐˜ช๐˜ด ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ ๐˜ฉ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ ๐˜ต๐˜ฐ ๐˜ฅ๐˜ช๐˜ฆ ๐˜ง๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆโ€™๐˜ด ๐˜ค๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜ฏ๐˜ต๐˜ณ๐˜บ. ๐˜•๐˜ฐ๐˜ต ๐˜ฆ๐˜ท๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜บ๐˜ฃ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฅ๐˜บ ๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ด ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ต ๐˜ค๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ค๐˜ฆ," continue to resonate as a testament to his patriotism.

By virtue of Republic Act 8815, today is declared a special non-working holiday in Pampanga and Angeles City in his honor.

Mayor Vilma Balle-Caluag and the City Government of San Fernando invite every Fernandino to reflect on his martyrdom and find inspiration in his extraordinary life and service to the nation.

Capitol backs launch of Lawyer of the Day Initiative

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO โ€“ The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Pampanga Chapter has finalized preparations for the launch of the Lawyer of the Day Initiative (LODI) or Legal Aid Desk at the Provincial Capitol, in coordination with the Provincial Government of Pampanga.

Governor Lilia โ€œNanayโ€ Pineda expressed full support for the initiative, underscoring the provinceโ€™s commitment to strengthening access to justice, particularly for indigent and qualified beneficiaries.

The LODI aims to provide free legal consultation and assistance while enabling lawyers to comply with their Mandatory Continuing Legal Education and public service requirements under the Unified Legal Aid Service (ULAS).

Following the Capitol launch, similar Legal Aid Desks will also be established in cities and municipalities across Pampanga to ensure wider reach and community accessibility.

โ€œThe positive response to our request for the LODI desk in the provincial capitol shows the warmth and motherly public service Nanay Gov is known for. It is our hope that while our peers in the legal profession get to comply with their ULAS units through their LODI duties, their legal service become the light of hope for those seeking justice,โ€ said Atty. Socrates Padua, former IBP Pampanga Chapter president.

In support of the programโ€™s expansion, the Provincial Government has committed to provide a bus for the โ€œLegal Aid on Wheelsโ€ Project. The mobile legal aid service is designed to deliver legal assistance to far-flung and underserved communities throughout the province.

The partnership between the IBP Pampanga Chapter and the Provincial Government reinforces a shared goal of making justice more accessible, responsive, and inclusive for all Kapampangans.
