The Western Leyte College – School of Law and Government (WLC-SLG), represented by Atty. Michael C. Sevilla, a faculty member, together with Hon. Judge Girlie M. Borrel-Yu, representing the Hall of Justice of Ormoc City (HOJ-Ormoc), participated in the 2nd Philippine Clinical Legal Education Summit in Baguio City on October 6-8, 2026.

Anchored on the theme “Bridging Theory and Practice: CLEP Andragogy, Judicial Engagement, and Transformative Lawyering in Advancing Access to Justice,” the Summit reaffirmed the vital role of clinical legal education in developing competent, compassionate, and service-oriented future lawyers.

For WLC-SLG, this commitment is reflected in its Legal Aid Clinic and community-based initiatives, including the WLCxOLBAxDILG and WLCxOLBAxLGU-Ormoc Dangpanan Legal Aid Desks, which bring legal assistance closer to those who need it most.

At WLC School of Law and Government, we believe that legal education finds its fullest purpose when the knowledge of the law becomes a means of serving others.

On October 3, 2026, law student practitioners Mary Ann Baculanta, Cristine Bilbao, Honey Louise Sheen Nellas, and Ariane Troy Silva of the Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP), under the supervision of Atty. Michael C. Sevilla, visited the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to conduct an interview with their client who is currently detained at the facility.

The activity provided the student practitioners with meaningful firsthand experience in client interviewing and legal case preparation, while allowing them to better understand their client’s circumstances and legal concerns. It also underscored the CLEP’s commitment to accessible legal service and the pursuit of justice for those in need.

On September 30, 2026, law student practitioners Sheila Mae Monencillo, Mary Grace Pilapil, Fe Rosello, and Lord Tyrone Agaton of the WLC Legal Aid Clinic, under the supervision of Atty. Michael C. Sevilla, made their court appearance for an arraignment and pre-trial conference.

The appearance marked a significant milestone in their Clinical Legal Education Program as they gained firsthand courtroom experience while taking part in the pursuit of justice and meaningful legal service.
