The practitioners also witnessed the continuation of the presentation of the prosecution’s evidence, specifically the testimony of a prosecution witness under direct examination.

During the visit, the Level 1 interns had the opportunity to observe the Level 2 Law Student Practitioners as they made their formal appearance and manifestation on behalf of a pro bono client. In addition to following the progress of the IBP legal aid case, the interns observed other criminal proceedings, specifically focusing on the direct examination of witnesses.

Witnessing these sessions firsthand allowed the Level 1 interns to see the practical application of courtroom protocols and the technical process of building a case through testimonial evidence. This exposure is an essential part of their development, providing a clear view of the responsibilities they will eventually undertake as they progress in the clinical legal education program.

𝐈𝐧 𝐏𝐑𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐬: The Level 2 Law Student Practitioners successfully appeared at the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 12 under Hon. Ma. Concepcion Serrano Altea.

Prior to the formal proceedings, the interns conducted a pre-hearing conference with the pro bono client to ensure comprehensive preparation. During the hearing, the law student practitioners officially entered their appearance and made a manifestation before the court. The interns also observed the judicial process as the fiscal in charge conducted a direct examination of the client.

Following the proceedings, the interns held a post-hearing conference with the client to discuss the developments of the case and provide further guidance.

These activities were performed under the guidance of their supervising lawyer, Atty. Jennifer Hilario. This experience is a vital component of their clinical legal education, allowing interns to provide diligent legal representation in an actual courtroom setting.

𝐈𝐧 𝐏𝐑𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐬: The Level 2 interns conducted a pre-hearing conference with a legal aid client and attended a court observation at the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 12.

The interns met with the client to refine the legal strategy and ensure comprehensive preparation for the upcoming litigation. This was followed by observing the judicial proceedings in RTC Branch 12, the venue where the Level 2 Law Student Practitioners shall also appear to hear and try the case on behalf of a pro bono client.

During these scheduled hearings, the interns shall personally appear as assistant counsel under the guidance of Atty. Jennifer Hilario. Familiarizing themselves with the protocols of this honorable court is an essential component of the preparation to provide diligent and effective legal representation.

𝐈𝐧 𝐏𝐑𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐬: The Tanglaw interns conducted a legal seminar titled "Lead Like the Babaylan Filipinas" for the women employees and solo parents of Alaminos, Laguna.

The seminar featured discussions on critical legal frameworks, including the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act (RA 11861), the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act (RA 9262), and the Anti-Rape Law (RA 8353 as amended by RA 11648). During the activity, the interns also assisted the IBP Laguna Chapter, which provided free legal consultations and free notarization of affidavits for solo parents.

Following the program, the interns were honored with a courtesy call from Vice Mayor Vic Landicho Mitra. The team also visited the Session Hall of Alaminos, Laguna, gaining a valuable look into the local legislative process.

These activities remain a vital part of the clinical legal education program, bridging the gap between classroom learning and community service.

The session was led by supervising lawyers Atty. Jed Lester Paombong and Atty. Jan Mae Abastillas, who provided a detailed discussion on both procedural and substantive objections. The interns studied the specific grounds for each and the proper techniques for moves to strike from the record. To apply these concepts, the practitioners engaged in practical exercises through a series of recitations for the interns.

Following the masterclass, the team held a meeting to discuss the progress and strategies for various pro bono cases handled by the center. These sessions are vital for ensuring that the interns are technically prepared to represent the community with competence and precision.

This session was held at the Lipa Cathedral, where the interns assisted a client with specific legal concerns regarding social security and insurance benefits. The discussion focused on the legal rights of beneficiaries and the rules governing benefit qualifications under SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag IBIG.

Through these consultations, the interns help members of the community better understand their legal rights and the proper procedures for managing their benefits.

In observance of National Women's Month, Tanglaw, in partnership with Hiraya, will conduct a legal seminar titled Lead Like the Babaylan Filipinas.

The program will feature discussions on several critical legal frameworks, including the Expanded Solo Parent's Act under RA 11861. There will also be a presentation on the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act, or RA 9262. Additionally, the seminar will cover the Anti-Rape Law, RA 8353 as amended by RA 11648. This project is part of our ongoing effort to help every Filipina understand her rights and find the support she needs through the law.

𝐈𝐧 𝐏𝐑𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐬: The Tanglaw Interns conducted a courtroom observation at the Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC), Branch 2, Lipa City, presided over by Hon. Judge Maricel Abarentos-Gain.

The session offered a comprehensive look into the different stages of the judicial process, starting with a Promulgation of Judgment. The practitioners witnessed the formal delivery of the court's final decision, providing a clear perspective on the conclusion of a trial.

A major highlight of the visit was the continuation of the presentation of evidence, specifically focusing on the Direct and Cross-examination of a police officer. Observing this allowed the interns to see how testimonial evidence is established and subsequently tested through strategic questioning. The session also covered initial presentations of evidence and successful mediations, highlighting the various procedural paths a case can take toward resolution.
