A student of mine in the College of Law asked me:
"Torni, why is it that the lawyers bill a significant amount of professional fees?"
Here is my answer to the student's question in class, which answer, I am gladly sharing to my followers so that you get an idea what you are paying for when you are billed by a lawyer.
👍👍👍
Paying a lawyer a significant fee is not merely a transaction for time. It is an investment in expertise, judgment, and responsibility. Behind every legal action is years of rigorous education, continuous training, and hard-earned experience that enable a lawyer to navigate complex laws, anticipate risks, and protect a client’s rights effectively. What appears in court or on paper is only a fraction of the work involved.
Much of a lawyer’s effort remains unseen such as meticulous research, strategic planning, document review, negotiations, and long hours spent analyzing every possible outcome. Each decision carries real consequences, often affecting a client’s reputation, freedom, finances, or future. Lawyers shoulder this responsibility with precision and accountability, knowing that even a small error can have serious repercussions.
High legal fees reflect not just the visible work, but the unseen dedication, intellectual labor, and professional liability that go into building a strong case. In critical moments, clients are not paying simply for services rendered. They are paying for competence, protection, and peace of mind when it matters most.
So, in short. Dili lalim ang trabaho sa abogado. Ok? 😁
