LOOK | โฑ81.4B Davao Bus Project Gains Ground as Calinan Terminal, Depot, and Driving School Rise
Construction is steadily advancing in Calinan as key components of the Davao Public Transport Modernization Project (DPTMP) take visible shape. The terminal and depot, central pillars of the โฑ81.4-billion initiative, are rising on the ground, laying the foundation for a more organized, efficient, and reliable public transport network across Davao City.
Among the standout features is a dedicated driving school and training center, signaling a deliberate push to professionalize the sector by equipping drivers with the skills, discipline, and standards a modernized system demands. Once completed, the 672-kilometer network, also known as "DavaoBus", is projected to serve around 800,000 commuters daily, powered by a fleet of 386 electric buses, 531 regular buses, and 188 mini buses. For a city of Davao's size, that's a generational shift in how people move.
Of the total $1.453 billion project cost, the ADB is financing $881 million (60.6%) through its Ordinary Capital Resources, with an additional $50 million from ADB-administered cofinancing. The Philippine government covers the remaining $522 million, about 36% of the total. Together, they are funding what ranks as one of the most significant transport investments in the country's history, and the results are already rising from the ground in Calinan.
