Registering your business name is an important step in setting up your single proprietorship business, but it does NOT automatically protect your brand.

A trademark protects the identity of your business. It gives you the exclusive right to use these marks and helps prevent others from using confusingly similar ones.

If youโ€™ve invested time and effort into building your business brand, make sure itโ€™s protected. Trademark registration is a key step in safeguarding your business identity.

On Wednesday, February 4, 2026, a delegation of European entrepreneurs from the STM Corporate Group conducted a scouting visit to Davao City to explore potential long-term investment and partnership opportunities. The visit focused on gaining firsthand knowledge of the cityโ€™s premier tourism sites and identifying strategic business ventures within the broader Davao Region.

The exchange, held at the Sangguniang Panlungsod Building, featured a comprehensive technical briefing supported by key government agencies. In attendance were representatives from the Department of Tourism (DOT), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Bureau of Immigration (BI), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-DCFO), the Board of Investments (BOI), and the local Business Bureau, alongside the Davao City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC). The meeting also drew participation from private sector stakeholders interested in forging new business ties with the European group.

Discussions were centered on the regulatory framework for "Doing Business in Davao," with specific sessions dedicated to understanding business partnerships, corporation structures, and Foreign Ownership Rules. The delegation also sought clarification on immigration laws for foreign investors and explored the various national and local tax incentives designed to attract sustainable investment.

Beyond policy, the entrepreneurs expressed a keen interest in the region's tourism-related opportunities. By identifying specific investment niches and learning about the cityโ€™s favorable economic climate, the group aimed to lay the groundwork for future collaborations. The participation of local private companies further enriched the dialogue, opening doors for potential business-to-business (B2B) partnerships.

This fruitful exchange underscores Davao Cityโ€™s growing reputation as a competitive destination for international capital. By bridging the gap between European investors and local regulatory bodies, the visit sets the stage for future collaborations that promise to drive economic growth and enhance the tourism landscape of the city and region.

The City Government of Davao, through the Davao City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC), continues to offer fiscal and non-fiscal incentives to local and international investors in the city.

Following the Davao City Investment Incentive Code, the city offers fiscal incentives composed of three years of business tax exemption; two years of real property tax exemption; and three years of Mayorโ€™s Permit, fees, and licenses exemption.

If the investor invests in preferred districts like Calinan, Paquibato, Marilog, and Baguio, they are entitled to five years of business tax exemption; five years of real property tax exemption; and five years of Mayorโ€™s permit, fees, and licenses exemption.

To avail of these fiscal incentives, investors may process their applications online at https://invest.davaocity.gov.ph/. They may also visit the center located at the third floor of the Investment Promotion and Tourism Building in Palma Gil St., Davao City.

Investors are also entitled to non-fiscal incentives wherein the DCIPC will provide them with business information data-banking; assistance in arranging site visits; and investment counselling and business matching. The DCIPC will also facilitate the processing of local permits and licenses.

The DCIPC also continues to provide other services to interested investors such as referral for manpower sourcing and referral of ideal location for certain projects in line with the cityโ€™s approved zoning ordinance.

In addition, the DCIPC provides investment fora and seminars; direct investment marketing; trade and tourism fairs and exhibits; investment briefings; and business consultation with strategic investors and the business community among others.

For 2025, the DCIPC plans to further enhance promotion initiatives primarily in the face-to-face domestic and international investment road shows.

The center also eyes to enhance the cityโ€™s participation in trade expos and exhibits like Osaka 2025, DATE, and ICON.

DCIPC will also further strengthen its current investment strategiesโ€ by improving its actual and offline collaterals that reinforce its promotional and marketing initiatives, maximize its current networks, and improve the cityโ€™s investment brand and image.โ€

In line with this, the DCIPC eyes the creation of a new โ€œInvest in Davaoโ€ video; the updating and translation of Invest in Davao brochure; improvement of online services; and holding a โ€œSister Cities Trade Fairโ€ during the Kadayawan Festival.

In a bid to contribute further to the collection of revenue for the city government, the center also plans to continue exploring programs and projects that could generate revenues for the city as well as to make amendments to the Davao City Investment Incentive Code.
