Justice is not only found inside the courtroom—it is also found in the work done before, during, and beyond it.

Through the continuing efforts of the JMC Legal Assistance Center, Project Dungog carries forward its commitment to extending legal assistance to Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) through:

• Court appearances
• Profiling and preparation of petitions
• Review, sorting, and filing of documents
• Filing of Petitions for Habeas Corpus
• Briefings and legal assistance
• Send off

From August to September 2026, the JMC Legal Assistance Center, through the Project Dungog conducted multiple court appearances and filed 29 Petitions for Habeas Corpus on behalf of PDLs.

Every petition prepared, every document reviewed, every court appearance made, and every hour spent is a step toward making legal assistance more accessible—and toward upholding the dignity of every person before the law.

Project Dungog is more than a project. It is a pathway to dignity, access to justice, and meaningful service.

⚖️ Serve with purpose. Advocate with compassion. Pursue justice with integrity.

Project Dungog returned to the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF), bringing together 55 law students from the JMCFI College of Law for a day of learning, service, and meaningful engagement.

They came not only to examine prison records, sentence computations, and time allowances, but also to listen to the stories of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs). Through conversations and careful questions, they looked beyond case numbers and records to see the people, stories, and lives behind each case.

Through the Case Review and Habeas Corpus Evaluation Clinic, our student practitioners put legal knowledge into practice—examining cases, understanding the circumstances of each PDL, and exploring possible legal remedies where the period of lawful detention may have been exceeded.

More than a clinical exercise, Project Dungog is a reminder that the pursuit of justice begins with seeing the person behind every case.

Because every case has a story.
Every person has dignity.
And every person deserves to be heard.

Seven (7) JMCFI Law Student Practitioners under Project Dungog appeared before the court on August 7 and 10, 2026, for the hearing of petitions for habeas corpus filed on behalf of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) believed to have overstayed beyond the period of their lawful detention at the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF) in Braulio E. Dujali, Davao del Norte.

Together with their supervising lawyers, Atty. Resci Angelli Rizada-Nolasco, Atty. Raia Angelie Tumanda, and Atty. Adrian Pajaro, the student practitioners took part in advancing access to justice and upholding the dignity and rights of persons deprived of liberty.

Project Dungog embodies the commitment of JMCFI College of Law to clinical legal education—bringing legal knowledge beyond the classroom and into the communities where it can make a meaningful difference.
