A season of giving, a celebration of togetherness.

It is always a privilege to take part in initiatives that strengthen our community and remind us that the joy of Christmas becomes even more meaningful when shared.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to LMFO for welcoming us as part of this year's PASKOJUAN 2026. We look forward to celebrating with everyone and contributing to the spirit of generosity and fellowship that makes this season truly special.

🎉 HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LEAN! 🎉

A birthday shoutout to our ever-beautiful, witty, and delightfully feisty Vice President for External Affairs, Marie Lean Cabantog! 💙💚✨

Equal parts pretty and brilliant, kind and sassy, Lean is the kind of person who brings sunshine, laughter, and a whole lot of personality wherever she goes! With her playful spirit, infectious positive energy, and humor that never misses, she knows how to make every moment more fun. And of course, when the situation calls for it, she can be just the right amount of feisty! 😉💅

Beyond the laughs and the charm is a smart, thoughtful, and genuinely kind person whose presence makes the LSG a little brighter and a lot more fun. We’re lucky to have you bringing your wit, warmth, and wonderful energy to the team!

May your days be filled with laughter, exciting adventures, endless blessings, and the bold, beautiful spirit that makes you impossible to forget. ✨

Happy Birthday, Lean! Keep being gorgeous, keep serving wit and humor, and keep spreading the kind of energy that makes everyone glad to have you around! 💋

With love,
Your LSG Family 💚

What does it mean to feel LIGTAS?

It can begin with knowing your own strengths and choices. With relationships grounded in respect, safety, and support. With knowing your rights and knowing where to turn when help is needed.

On October 17, around 50 DLSU-D Night College Scholars will come together for Project LIGTAS: Women’s Agency, Safety, and Rights, a participant-centered morning of learning and reflection on personal agency, healthy and supportive relationships, rights awareness, and help-seeking.

Through SARILI, UGNAYAN + DAMAY, and GABAY, Project LIGTAS connects knowing oneself and one’s choices with building supportive relationships, understanding one’s rights, and knowing when, where, and how to seek appropriate help.

Organized by SSEAYP International Philippines – Southern Tagalog Chapter and the DLSU-D National Service Training Program-Civic Welfare Training Service (NSTP-CWTS), with the support of our DLSU-D and community partners, Project LIGTAS also carries forward the spirit of youth exchange, service, and friendship as we commemorate 70 years of Philippines-Japan relations. 🇵🇭🇯🇵

The 𝘌𝘯 𝘉𝘢𝘯𝘤, during its session on October 7, 2026, approved amendments to the 𝘙𝘶𝘭𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘊𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘵 (A.M. No. 25-03-14-SC) to make it easier for Filipino spouses to prove a foreign divorce when seeking its recognition in Philippine courts.

Under the amendments, which will take effect 15 days after they are posted on the Supreme Court Website, Filipino spouses seeking recognition of a foreign divorce under Article 26(2) of the 𝘍𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘺 𝘊𝘰𝘥𝘦 will no longer need to prove the applicable foreign law when filing their petition. They will only need to prove that the foreign divorce took place.

The amendments introduce Section 48-A of Rule 39, which presumes that a foreign divorce between a Filipino and a foreign spouse allows the foreign spouse to remarry under foreign law, unless the divorce decree itself states that it is only a limited divorce.

The party opposing the petition now bears the burden of proving that the divorce is not absolute.

The new rule also presumes that an English translation of a foreign divorce document is accurate if the translator certifies its accuracy under oath.

These presumptions are disputable; they may be challenged with contrary evidence, under Section 3 of Rule 131.

The amendments, however, leave the existing legal framework unchanged. A petition for judicial recognition of a foreign divorce is still required, and the substantive requirements of Article 26(2) of the 𝘍𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘺 𝘊𝘰𝘥𝘦 remain the same.

Recognition of a foreign divorce may still be opposed on grounds such as lack of jurisdiction, lack of notice, fraud, or a clear mistake of law or fact.

The amendments were approved upon the recommendation of Associate Justice Alfredo Benjamin S. Caguioa, and in consultation with Associate Justices Amy C. Lazaro-Javier and Jhosep Y. Lopez, and the Sub-Technical Working Group on the Concerns of Overseas Working Filipinos Regarding the Recognition of Foreign Divorce Decrees/Reports (Sub-TWG).

During consultations with the Sub-TWG, the Department of Foreign Affairs identified several challenges. Foreign family laws are often spread across different jurisdictions, making them difficult to obtain. Some countries have no designated official who can certify these laws, while foreign ministries generally do not provide official English translations.

Through these amendments, the Supreme Court aims to remove unnecessary barriers and make it easier for Filipinos to exercise their rights under the law.

“THOSE WHO FORGET HISTORY ARE BOUND TO RELIVE IT.”

But what if history isn’t just about remembering?

What if it’s about questioning, understanding, and protecting the rights we often take for granted?

This September, we mark 54 years since the signing of Proclamation No. 1081 on September 21, 1972, by then-President Ferdinand E. Marcos, which placed the Philippines under Martial Law.

Join us for this Brown Bag Lecture for an insightful discussion that goes beyond the pages of history and into the realities that continue to shape our society today.

We are honored to have Atty. Josiah David Quising, professor, policy consultant, human rights advocate, and co-founder of Project Gunita, lead us on the discussion,

“Martial Law Through a Human Rights Lens.”
