SC Justice Caguioa Urges Future Lawyers to Help Fix the βCracks in the Systemβ
Supreme Court Associate Justice Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa urged aspiring lawyers to reject the mindset of "ganyan talaga" and become lawyers who stand for truth, justice, and integrity as he received the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws, Honoris Causa from Manuel L. Quezon University (MLQU).
Speaking before the graduates of the MLQU School of Law, Justice Caguioa challenged future lawyers to help address the "cracks in the system" instead of accepting them as normal. He encouraged them to remain guided by principle, strengthen their competence, and always have the courage to do what is right. "For every person who tells you, 'ganyan talaga,' may you always have the courage to answerβ'Hindi. GANITO DAPAT,'" he said.
Justice Caguioa also reminded the graduates that in a time when false information can easily spread and appear to be true, lawyers have a vital duty to uphold the rule of law. He said the country needs legal professionals who can tell fact from rumor, evidence from fabrication, and law from propaganda, stressing that competence and integrity are essential to restoring public trust in the justice system.
