ANNOUNCEMENT!

"Canada will increase the financial requirement for international students applying for study permits from September 1, 2026, with a single student required to show C$23,448 for living expenses.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced the increase on Friday as part of its annual adjustment of financial requirements to keep pace with the cost of living and help protect international students from exploitation.

The amount required for living expenses is separate from tuition fees and transportation costs, which applicants must also show they can afford."

For students weighing where a degree will actually take them, New Zealand deserves a sharper look in 2026 counselling conversations.

New Zealand has been recognised at the top of the QS framework's employment outcomes lens in recent global comparisons, a useful proof point when families ask about career return on investment. For many postgraduate pathways, a three-year post-study work visa for Master's and Doctoral graduates gives graduates time to convert study into skilled work experience.

Inside the upGrad GSP partner network, students and agents can explore a focused New Zealand set including:
โ€ข University of Auckland (QS global top-tier positioning)
โ€ข Auckland University of Technology (AUT), strong graduate employment narrative
โ€ข Victoria University of Wellington
โ€ข The University of Waikato, including Triple Crown business school credentials
โ€ข Massey University - Te Kunenga ki Pลซrehuroa

Typical postgraduate tuition bands sit roughly in the NZD 35,000-55,000 per year range depending on programme (confirm live fees on each course page). Main intakes cluster around February/March and July, which helps agents sequence offers against Northern Hemisphere calendars.

If you are building multi-destination shortlists for students who want English-medium study, safety, and work-ready outcomes, add New Zealand beside Australia, the UK, and Ireland rather than treating it as a backup only.

Explore New Zealand programmes with your upGrad GSP advisor, or browse live options on the platform.

Your Border Watch reports matter.

A NSW aged care provider has been sanctioned and required to repay nearly $120,000 to sponsored employees following an investigation that started from a Border Watch report.

Australian Border Force officers found the business had sponsored 19 workers under the Skills in Demand (Subclass 482) visa. The business had recovered sponsorship-related costs from 13 migrant workers, which is prohibited under Australiaโ€™s migration laws.

Australiaโ€™s migration laws are designed to protect temporary visa workers from exploitation and strictly prohibit approved work sponsors from recovering, transferring, or shifting sponsorship-related costs on to visa holders.

We're committed to enforcing sponsor obligations and addressing exploitation within the migration program. Employers who attempt to avoid their sponsorship obligations should expect to be detected, investigated, and held accountable.
