10 IMPORTANT TIPS TO KNOW IF YOU ARE GOING TO LIVE IN PANAMA
1. If you are planning to live in Panama, take in consideration the following advise.
2. Being Panama an small and manageable country, you can know and understand Panama
more quickly than most other Latin American countries, even though in certain areas of
activities like goverment offices and other, it have certain level of bureaucracy that is not
different than other country of the regionfor its size, but others specially banks, financial
services and logistic endeavours Panama is much better than many countries around.
3. Another thing to consider without going to the extreme of ¨living la vida loca¨ is that the
Panamanians live vivaciously and enjoy the present moment. Money is not complete
necessarily a motivating factor in their lives. Many locals are not in a rush to get anywhere. The
overall culture is family and relationship oriented. For the most part, the Panamanian people
seem to be a very caring, relaxed and content. While there are life’s daily problems and
drama, the Panamanians have a richness of inherent spirit in thier daily live.
4. Health care in Panama is international standard and costs a fraction the cost of comparable
care in the United States. Panama has the best medical services in Latin America. There are
excellent hospitals in Panama City including Punta Pacifica (a John Hopkins affiliate). Many of
the doctors and dentists are English speaking. Full coverage health insurance policies are very
reasonably priced.
5. However, both the standard and copst of care can vary dramatically, not only from one part
of the country to another, but also depending where you seek care in Panama City. For example,
The Johns Hopkins-affiliated Hospital Punta Pacifica in downtown Panama City offers facilities
and services like those at available at any metropolitan-based U.S. hospital for perhaps half the
cost. However, Clinica Einstein, located in Panama City’s El Cangrejo neighborhood, offers many
of the same services in a small, friendly, clean clinic environment where doctors and nurses
speak English, lab tests can be processed on site, and prices are half as much or less than those
at Hospital Punta Pacifica ... meaning they’re one-fourth as much as U.S. costs. Health-care is
very inexpensive in Panama. An office visit for a dentist, with a cleaning and exam is anywhere
from $25 to $45. .

6.The "pensionado" (retirement) program for foreigners relocating to Panama is still the most
aggressive and cost effective of any other Latin country. "Pensionado" is any foreigner who can
afford to "retire" to Panama, regardless of their age, and they qualify for 25-35% discounts on
most everything...from food to airline tickets. For this you need a VALIDATED income stream of
$1000 per month, or $1500 per married couple.
6.There is no Central Bank to manipulate or control the money supply in Panama. That means
the banks are run more conservatively and maintain values better than much of the rest of the
world. Panama is the largest international financial center after New York in the hemisphere.

The dollar is tied to the local currency called the "Balboa". That, at least for the time being,
creates more stability of currency for this region. Of course, that could all change in the future if
the dollar takes an expected devaluation.

7. Lots of late model cars and trucks on the road, and prices are about the same or even less in
some cases for a new vehicle than in the USA.
8. If you like warm, the climate year around is tropical at sealevel...and there are enough higher
elevation mountains such as near the northern border with Costa Rica that feature a more
"springlike" climate year around.
9. Panama features more species of flora and fauna than most any other country...and because
of its relatively small size, it is easier to find or observe those wonders of nature.
Islands, islands and more islands. If you like islands, Panama has the most of any country its size.
The best beaches in Panama are at the islands...the two largest groups being "Las Perlas" islands
on the Pacific side, and "San Blas Islands" on the Caribbean side.
