The Office of the Crown Solicitor for Whangarei is looking for lawyers who would like to be part of our tight-knit, passionate, supportive team of prosecutors.

The role involves all aspects of criminal prosecution throughout the Northland Courts. This includes file review and preparation through to all manner of Court appearances from the early stages of the prosecution through to pre-trial hearings, trials (both jury and Judge alone), and sentencing. You will also appear in the High Court.

There is significant Court time in this role with the opportunity to hone your advocacy skills. You will appear both by yourself, and where appropriate, with other Senior Prosecutors to assist in your development and progression as a prosecutor and as a litigator.

Northland experiences a wide variety of criminal offending, which will be reflected in the variety of files you will prosecute. Whangarei also runs one of only two Sexual Violence Courts in the country, following the successful Sexual Violence Pilot Court which ran from 2016 to 2018.

We invite applications from lawyers with 2+ years PQE who would like to be a part of our team and represent the community’s interest in the prosecution of criminal offending.

There is also opportunity for more experienced Counsel with greater PQE and we invite applications from such interested Counsel too.
