Jamie Waugh, Principal of Whanganui’s leading legal team Crowley Waugh, has announced that the firm will commence operating as a company. While the firm’s name remains, the structure will evolve with the appointment of Megan Kennard and Stacey Hyland as Directors from 1 April 2026.

The change reflects a clear strategic direction which will see Jamie Waugh focusing solely on his criminal and civil law specialties while Megan Kennard and Stacey Hyland will lead the firm’s property, commercial and family law practice.

Joined by long standing family law specialist, Sheryle Proctor, family lawyer, Alicia Matthews, the highly regarded Craig Smith and the newest member of the team, Angela Rees. Crowley Waugh remain committed to being Whanganui’s leading legal team and the first call for individuals, families, and businesses needing practical and trusted advice - whether buying or selling property, establishing commercial agreements, navigating a separation or child care arrangements, or drafting your succession documents such as wills and family trusts.

Megan and Stacey, who have built strong reputations in their respective fields, will lead the firm into its next phase of growth.

For clients of Crowley Waugh, the message is continuity and strength. The team at Crowley Waugh together with the ongoing administrative support of Kathy, Christina, Sandra and Julia will continue to work closely with clients to ensure a seamless transition during the upcoming period.

With deep roots in the community and a forward-looking leadership team, the firm’s focus is clear: continuity, expertise and trusted relationships – now and into the future.

“People seeking genuine connections are often targeted by scammers who exploit their vulnerabilities. These crimes result in financial loss and lasting emotional harm. Many victims struggle to rebuild trust, both online and in other areas of their lives.”

With so much of life now conducted online, the search for connection can sometimes lead people into harm’s way — even around Valentine’s Day — as organised scammers actively target those seeking genuine relationships, building trust only to exploit it for financial gain.

The panel warned of risks to Māui dolphins and key seabird species.
