Are you stressed about the LAWS297 Moot? Are you eager to practice your mooting & advocacy skills? Or perhaps you’re willing to revisit your mooting days?

Introducing for the first time ever…the ALSA Social Justice Moot! With the goal of creating a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone, the ALSA SJM hopes to cultivate a space for students to practice and display their mooting abilities.

With a focus on a Asian cultural issue, this moot has been designed so anyone in their law school journey will be able to compete and garner feedback from experienced litigators and lawyers that may be applicable to their own LAWS297 Moot or other competitions. Picking up invaluable advocacy skills are also part of the whole experience.

Come along to our information session to learn more about the competition and SIGN UP!

Kia ora ALSA fam 🩷

I am excited to announce the launch of the Mentoring Programme for 2024 !

For those of you who may not know, the initiative behind the mentoring programme is to provide an opportunity for ALSA members to share their intergenerational knowledge and support one another.

The mentoring launch is for senior students (second year and up) and ALSA alumni (as mentors). Senior students this is an amazing opportunity to step into the role of mentor, mentee or both !!

Also in light of ALSA’s 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY a great way to acknowledge and give back to the community we have built 🤩

Don’t worry juniors there will be a opportunity to participate in the programme in Trimester 2 🫶🏼.

To sign up, fill in the Google Form in our bio!

I cannot wait to see you all there!
- Shajan (Mentoring Liaison)

Our annual TALENT NIGHT is on the evening of Thursday the 21st of Sep (week 9) 🥳🥳🥳 This event takes place in the Common Room, and if you only go to one event this year this is the one to go to, whether you're a performer or after a cozy night in watching the show. It's a night of fun, friends and food (again, a lot of it) 🍕🍕🍕

We need YOU, yes YOU, to fill out the show! If you've got a crazy hidden talent, a skill you're keen to share, or an act you've been waiting to perform then consider this your calling. In the past we've had insane dance numbers, wholesome bands, magic tricks, stand up comedians - you're only limited by your imagination. 🎤🎼🎹🤹‍♀️🎭

So if you think you've got something you can fit in a maximum 10 minute set then go absolutely HAM 🍖 and fill out the form in the link below. You don't have to be the next best thing, you just need to be you ❤ (not that you're not the next best thing 😘)

Here's the sign up form for performers: https://forms.gle/s1ZLFLGUhGujaGEt9
(Also available through our LinkTree)

Introducing the panellists for this Wednesday’s panel in collaboration with our new sponsor Fitzherbert Rowe!

This panel discussion aims to shed light on an important and often overlooked aspect of Aotearoa New Zealand's multicultural fabric: the Asian diaspora and its interaction with the legal system. As Aotearoa New Zealand continues to witness a growing Asian population, it is crucial to examine how individuals from Asian backgrounds engage with the country's legal framework, identify key areas of progress, and discuss potential areas for improvement.

Come along and hear what our esteemed guests have to say. There will be kai and a give away!

WHEN: Wednesday 19 July, 6:00PM start

‼️ CALL-OUT FOR SUBMISSIONS: ALSA’S VERY OWN ZINE ‼️

Law school doesn’t give us that many opportunities to celebrate art or identity… but the ALSA Zine is here to change that 😤 The zine will be a collection of Asian creativity and excellence and that’s where YOU come in!

We are accepting any form of art, so long as it can be published using text or images. Poetry, commentary, paintings, recipes, crochet projects - literally anything that you want to show to the world ✍️🎨🧶

Doesn’t have to be something completely new either - we want to showcase your talented mahi from past to present.

Please send your piece/s to [email protected] after completing the form in our bio.

Submissions are due on the 26th of June - mark your calendars now and comment/message if you have any pātai! Can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with 🥰
