Thinking about subdividing your property?

Subdivision can create opportunities, but it involves much more than drawing a new boundary line.

Before getting started, it's important to consider:
• Whether the subdivision is feasible under local planning rules.
• Council approvals and consent requirements.
• Access, services, and infrastructure needs.
• The costs and timeframes involved.

Every subdivision project is different, and obtaining the right advice early can save significant time, cost, and frustration later on.

Our team can help guide you through the legal aspects of the subdivision process and work alongside planners, surveyors, and councils to help keep your project on track.

Farm succession is about more than passing on land.

For many rural families, the farm is both a business and a legacy. Planning for the future involves more than preparing a Will. Ownership structures, trusts, relationship property considerations, debt, and family expectations all play a role.

Starting the conversation early can provide an opportunity for clarity for all involved and helps avoid misunderstandings down the track.

Every farm and family's circumstances are different, and competing interests can make succession decisions complex. A well-considered succession plan helps protect not only the farm, but the relationships and future generations connected to it.

If you're thinking about the future of your farm, now is the time to start the conversation.

Buying rural isn’t quite the same as buying residential.

In NZ, rural or lifestyle properties can involve extra checks people don’t always expect, such as:
• Water supply, tanks, septic systems or wastewater setup
• Access rights, easements, and shared driveways
• Zoning, land use rules, or resource consent issues

These details can affect what you’re buying and what you can do with the property later.

Thinking about a rural or lifestyle purchase? Get legal advice early.
