Big updates from Immigration New Zealand 🇳🇿 — here’s what you need to know 👇
🔹 Open Work Visa Changes
Open work visas will now fall into 2 clear categories:
• “Any work” – work for any employer, be self-employed, or run a business
• “Work for an employer” – must work under an employment agreement
⚠️ Note: Open work visa holders will NOT be allowed to hire others, even if they own a business.
🔹 Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) Updates
New pathways are coming to make residence more accessible:
• Skilled Work Experience pathway
• Trades & Technician pathway
Plus simpler points system, clearer wage thresholds, and better recognition of NZ qualifications 🙌
🔹 Post-Study Work Visa Changes
• NEW Short Term Graduate Work Visa (up to 6 months) to help grads find jobs
• Expanded eligibility for Post-Study Work Visa (including Level 7 Graduate Diplomas)
⚠️ Short-term visa holders must work for an employer and cannot support partner/child visas.
