A snapshot of the year that was - our first in Northern Quarter.

When the partners made the decision to move back to the city centre in 2022, the aim was to create an office that our people wanted to come to, a destination. One year in, it's fair to say that this has been achieved.

Over the past 12 months, our space has been the backdrop for countless team celebrations, client seminars, community events, workshops, barbecues and many, many coffees on the balcony. A welcoming and versatile environment that can host the Tauranga business community for a World Cup Breakfast one moment and support quiet, focused work the next.

One year into life at Northern Quarter, we're reflecting on one of the most meaningful features of our workplace: Māramatanga.

Commissioned from local artist Julie Paama-Pengelly, the work draws inspiration from weaving traditions, the three baskets of knowledge and the history of Tauranga Moana. Māramatanga means enlightenment and speaks to learning, wisdom and the sharing of knowledge.

These installation photos offer a look at how the artwork took shape, with each fish, bird and star attached onsite as the building neared completion. Having recently made some of the stars ourselves in the office, we've gained an even greater appreciation for the months of work that led up to the final installation. Julie made hundreds of these elements from recycled aluminium window blinds, creating a work that is as innovative as it is meaningful.

We feel very fortunate to have this celebration of Tauranga Moana at the heart of our space. Thank you Jules!

This week marks one year since we moved into our Northern Quarter home, so we’ve gone back through the archives to see how the building took shape.

Since then, it’s become much more than a new office. It’s a fantastic environment for our team and has provided a space where we can regularly welcome clients, local organisations and the wider community. Being part of downtown Tauranga has been another highlight. With the city centre continuing to evolve and the waterfront on our doorstep, we’re fortunate to enjoy it every day.

After many years of planning and a big move, we’re well and truly settled in. Here’s to our first year at Northern Quarter, and many more as part of Tauranga’s city centre!

Have you spotted the Hobec team walking around Tauranga city centre a lot this week? It's not just because the weather has been perfect for a stroll. We've been taking part in The Good Walk in support of Good Neighbour.

A big shout-out to our team for getting behind such a great cause. Hannah, Michelle and Mikaela, Bridget and Laura, Lanna and Shania, Tizi, Bryn and, notably absent from the photo, Ben, have all completed their laps over the past week. And yes, coffee stops are permitted.

The Great Hobec Bake-Off continues to deliver a dangerously good lineup of sweet treats. Over the past few months, our Rotorua team has enjoyed:

• Kayla's Cookie Monster cookies
• Tessa's triple chocolate caramel-filled gooey cookies
• James' dangerous chocolate, caramel and almond slice
• Rochelle's "carro-nana" cake (carrot cake and banana cake had a beautiful baby)
• Shannon's Bananas in Pyjamas banana chocolate chunk cookies
• Tash's lemon shortbread
• Victoria's tiramisu tart (also looking quite dangerous!)

The competition remains fierce, but the real winners might just be everyone lucky enough to sample the entries.

We've been sitting on this photo for a few weeks, waiting for our position on the leaderboard to become a little more presentable...

Now sitting comfortably in the middle of the rankings, it feels like the right time to introduce our The Clubhouse IGC Business House Golf team.

With five of eight rounds complete, they've found some form and are heading into the final three rounds with a little more confidence.

Ivy and Caitlyn were admitted yesterday at the Wellington High Court, while Bridget was admitted at the Whangārei High Court last week.
