On Sunday, a group of Hobec ladies attended the Massage After Miscarriage Aotearoa annual fundraising afternoon tea.

MAMA does amazing work nurturing women through the heartbreak of pregnancy and infant loss, and we’re proud to support Michelle and the MAMA mission in a number of ways.

It was a beautiful and inspiring afternoon, and we were thrilled to hear that an incredible $20,886 was raised to help continue the care and compassion MAMA provides to women across Aotearoa.

Thinking about building a granny flat?
From January 2026, New Zealanders may be able to build a standalone swelling up to 70m² without a building consent - provided certain conditions are met. While the new rules could make it easier to add extra space, there are still important building, planning and council requirements to comply with.

If you’re considering creating space for family, generating rental income, or increasing your property’s flexibility, this article by our property law team is worth a read.

Tauranga Arts Festival is kicking off with a bang this year!

We’re very excited to be sponsoring Macy Gray for the festival’s opening night. Bringing an internationally renowned headliner of this calibre to Tauranga is a huge achievement, and we’re incredibly proud to be longstanding supporters of the festival.

We can’t wait for this one, and to see what else they have in store!

📢 Tauranga… this is HUGE 🙌 👀

Global R&B and soul icon MACY GRAY will be headlining the Tauranga Arts Festival 2026 🎶🔥

Following her sensational sold-out 2024 tour, Macy Gray returns to Australia and New Zealand for her biggest tour yet - and Tauranga is officially on the list 👀

With over 25 million records sold worldwide, a Grammy Award, two BRIT Awards and 10 studio albums spanning more than two decades, Macy Gray is one of the defining voices of modern soul and R&B.

Expect a celebration of her chart-topping hits including 'I Try', 'Still', 'Do Something', 'Sweet Baby', and so much more, plus a brand new single from the upcoming album 'The Trouble with the Truth'.

Australia and New Zealand helped make Macy Gray a star - now she’s coming back to remind us why.

📅 Macy Grays 'festival of soul' will be opening the Tauranga Arts Festival 2026 at Baycourt Community and Arts Centre on 22 October 2026, 8pm.

🎟 Ticket Sales start 4 June 2026, 9am - keep your eyes peeled! 👀

Yesterday we have the pleasure of hosting the inaugural Property Council New Zealand Women in Property Tauranga event.

Vanessa Hamm joined a brilliant panel with Tracy Hayson, Michelle Teutenberg and Jessica Cushing, with Olivia Pearson facilitating a really honest and insightful conversation about leadership, ownership and building long-term careers in property.

And what a fantastic turnout - with a room full of driven, ambitious women committed to shaping the future of our sector.

Our Succession, Trusts & Estates team stepped out of the office yesterday to support Coast Care Bay of Plenty, planting 480 native pīngao along the Mount Maunganui beachfront.

Pīngao is a native sand-binding plant that plays a vital role in restoring dune systems and protecting our coastline for future generations. It was a rewarding day contributing to the preservation of one of our region’s most iconic natural environments.

Pīngao also holds special meaning for us at Hobec - our logomark represents a gold pīngao fibre, treasured in tukutuku weaving. Through weaving pīngao, stories are told, knowledge is shared, and connections are strengthened across communities and generations.

A huge thank you to the Coast Care team for the incredible work they do and for having us involved in such a meaningful project.
