People often think family law is all about conflict. Not true!

You can separate with dignity and respect for each other. In reality, most people simply want clarity.

They want to understand their options, make informed decisions and find the best way forward for themselves and their family.

Every conversation starts with listening, understanding your situation and helping you navigate what comes next with practical advice and genuine care. 🤍

We wish more people knew it's okay to ask questions before making decisions. 🤍

You don't need to have made up your mind before speaking to a lawyer.

If you're thinking about separation, relationship property, parenting arrangements or simply planning for the future, understanding your options early can help you make informed decisions with confidence.

Sometimes one conversation is all it takes to bring a little clarity.

There's no obligation, no pressure and no expectation that you've got everything figured out.

Sometimes it's okay to simply ask, "What does this mean for me?"

💐 It's often the smallest gestures that brighten your day.

A thoughtful bunch of flowers. A kind note. A few encouraging words.

They're simple things, but they have a way of reminding you how important kindness can be.

We feel incredibly fortunate to work with wonderful clients, colleagues and referral partners, and we never take that support for granted.

🤍 Thank you for being part of the Rotherham Law journey.

It's something we hear quite often.

Not because people have done something wrong.

Usually because they've spent months trying to figure everything out on their own.

Sometimes one conversation is all it takes to understand your options and feel a little less overwhelmed.

You don't have to have every answer before asking questions.

And we're here to start that conversation at any stage.

It's a question we hear quite a bit. 💬

The short answer? It depends.

Many people are surprised to learn that KiwiSaver can form part of relationship property. But that doesn't automatically mean it's divided equally or that you'll lose half of it.

Things like when contributions were made 📅, how long you've been together ❤️ and your individual circumstances can all make a difference.

Every situation is unique, so it's important not to rely on what happened to a friend or something you've read online 💻.

If you're separating and wondering what happens to your KiwiSaver, it's worth getting advice early ⚖️ so you understand your options before making any decisions.

🤍 Every situation is different, and we're here to help you understand yours.

One thing working in family law teaches you is that people are often far more resilient than they think.

We meet people at all stages of life. Some are planning for the future, while others are facing one of life's biggest changes.

Time and time again, we see people find their feet again, rebuild their confidence and create a new chapter for themselves and their families.

It's a privilege to be part of that journey. 🤍

Looking around the room at our official office opening, there was one thing that stood out. 🤍

Clients.
Referral partners.
Friends.
Family.
Colleagues.

People who have all been part of Rotherham Law's journey, together in one room.

It was a lovely reminder that while family law is what we do, relationships are at the heart of everything we do.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate our new office. It meant a great deal. ✨

Thanks again to GiselleB.Photography for capturing the night so well.

A common misconception about relationship property? ⚖️

That everything automatically gets split 50/50 no matter the circumstances.

The reality is usually more nuanced than people expect.

Every relationship is different, and factors like trusts, assets owned before the relationship, inheritances, business interests 💼 and contracting out agreements can all affect how property is divided.

If separating, getting advice early matters. Assumptions, even well-meaning ones, can sometimes lead people down the wrong track.

A good conversation early on can help people better understand where they stand and what options may be available to them .🤍

Getting clarity from the beginning can make a difficult situation a little easier to navigate.

If you need advice or support around separation, parenting or communication, reach out to Rachael.
