Today marks the start of Welcoming Week 2026! 💙

From 4-13 September, communities across New Zealand will come together to celebrate inclusion, connection and belonging. This year's theme, Together We Belong, recognises that welcoming is more than a first impression. It's about creating communities where everyone feels valued, connected and able to participate.

Welcoming Week is part of Immigration New Zealand's Welcoming Communities programme, which works alongside councils and local communities to create places where newcomers and long-time residents feel they belong.

Throughout the week, Councils across New Zealand are hosting events and activities that celebrate diversity, foster connection and help everyone feel at home.

Immigration New Zealand has confirmed updates to the Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) Resident Visa and Work to Residence settings, effective August 2026.

Final details on changes to the Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) have been confirmed today ahead of them coming into effect in August 2026. In addition, details on changes to wage thresholds for Work to Residence is also being confirmed.
