Instant DIY Kitchen Update

If your kitchen's looking a little tired but a full renovation isn't in the budget, you'll be amazed at what repainting your cabinets can do. First, work out what they're made of (Wood? Veneer?), take a few photos and head to your local hardware or paint store to discuss colours. Wood cabinetry will need a light sand before painting, and veneer requires speciality paint, but either way, it's a relatively quick, inexpensive and effective update. For added impact, freshen up the handles while you're at it.

5-step pallet gardens

A recycled wooden pallet makes for a low-cost, space saving garden and a fun project for the whole family.

Here's how it's done:

- Screw a timber base into each row of the pallet
- Line it with w**d mat and secure it with a staple gun
