After more than 20 years in conveyancing, there are two settlement complaints we hear most from buyers .

The first? They arrive at their beautiful new home, only to discover it needs a serious clean. The second? They thought they would be getting the keys at 9am, only to find the vendor is still moving out and settlement may not happen until later in the day.

Neither is particularly welcome when you are excited to move into your new home!

💡 TOP TIP: Get it in writing!

Never rely on verbal assurances when buying a property or business.

If something is important to you, make sure it is included in the agreement in writing.

A promise made over the phone or in a conversation may not give you the protection you expect.

Buying a business? Don’t just look at the numbers.

Before you commit to buying a business, make sure you understand exactly what you are buying.

Look beyond the asking price and investigate the contracts, lease, assets, employees, licences, intellectual property and any other obligations that could come with the business.
