1️⃣Did you know that in New Zealand, fences between farms don’t have to be 50/50 split in cost unless both parties benefit equally? Fence law is full of quirks under the Fencing Act 1978.

2️⃣ Did you know that water rights in rural NZ aren’t tied to land ownership? You need consent to take water, even from streams on your property and there’s a cap on how much you can use.

3️⃣ Did you know rural succession planning (who gets the farm) is one of the most litigated areas in rural law, often ending up in the Family or High Court?

4️⃣ Did you know that in some regions, planting trees too close to your neighbour’s land can lead to legal disputes especially if roots damage fences or block stock access?
