A Heartfelt Reminder of Why We Do What We Do
On Friday afternoon, I received the most beautiful gift from a client whose employment matter we resolved recently, after three long years of hard work, perseverance, and commitment.
It’s moments like these that remind me why I chose this work. Beyond legal principles, processes, and regulations, advocacy is about people, dignity, and justice. Seeing the relief and gratitude from someone who has endured such a challenging journey is profoundly humbling.
This gift is more than just a token...it’s a symbol of trust, resilience, and the impact we can have when we fight for what’s right.
To all the clients who have trusted me with their stories: your courage inspires me every day. And to anyone navigating difficult workplace challenges......justice is possible, and you don’t have to face it alone. Personal Grievance? Unfair termination? Call for a free consultation.

When Work Doesn’t Feel Fair — What Are Your Options?
Most of us spend more time at work than anywhere else. So when things go wrong — whether it’s a restructure, unfair treatment, or uncertainty about your rights — the impact can feel overwhelming.

Employment law can seem complicated, but it exists to protect both employees and employers. It provides a clear framework for handling disputes, ensuring fairness, and creating safer, healthier workplaces.

Common issues people face:
Bullying or harassment that chips away at confidence and wellbeing

Restructures or redundancies where communication isn’t clear

Pay disputes and transparency — knowing what’s fair

Personal grievances where people feel their voice isn’t being heard

What can you do?
The first step is always to get advice early. Often, problems can be resolved without going to court or even mediation. Knowing your rights (and obligations, if you’re an employer) can save stress, time, and money.

How I help
My name is Kam Andrews, and through Wheels of Justice Employment Law Services, I support people across New Zealand to navigate workplace issues. Whether you’re an employee who feels unheard, or an employer wanting to do right by your staff, my role is to:

Listen and understand your situation

Explain your rights and options in plain English

Work toward fair, practical solutions that protect dignity and respect

Because everyone deserves a workplace where they feel safe, valued, and respected.

Workplace investigations can feel performative—but they’re not always.
I’ve seen the post making the rounds that paints workplace investigations as theatre, where nothing changes, and the person who speaks up is left out in the cold.
That does happen. And it’s devastating when it does! I have represented many employees to a successful outcome even in these dire circumstances.
But we have to call out the reality aswell: and for too many, the process feels like a script already written. They speak up (bravely at that), they’re sidelined, and the bully stays. If that’s been your experience, I’m truly sorry. You deserved better and hopefully you can follow the tips if it should ever re-occur.
But here’s the other side to the HR Crew or legal representatives that do care:

There are investigations that lead to real accountability.

There are HR professionals and external investigators who take their roles seriously. Who listen. Who protect confidentiality. Who recommend action. And sometimes—change does happen. Quietly, behind the scenes, but meaningfully.

HR isn’t always perfect—but it’s not the enemy either.

Yes, a forgotten fact is that HR does work for the company or entity if you prefer. But protecting people is protecting the company. Good HR leaders know that a toxic culture is a liability—and that upholding fairness is how trust is built.
So, what can we do?
Keep records.
Bring support.
Know your rights early.
But also: Don’t give up on the process just because it failed someone else. Start afresh, clean page, open mind and active and constructive to the maintenance of employynet. But if you still want out you should call for help, especially if you think the process could backfire to causing you more pain and suffering.
That aside.....Let’s push for better systems—not abandon them.
Let’s hold space for the pain while also holding space for progress.
