SH39 at Symes Bridge, between Ōtorohanga and Pirongia, will close from October 11 for a major upgrade.

State Highway 3 is blocked in Te Kūiti tonight following a serious collision.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Carroll Street and Ward Street about 7.50pm.

Diversions are being established and the Serious Crash Unit will examine the scene. Motorists travelling between Taranaki and the Waikato should avoid the area and expect delays.

🆕Update 12:35: The road is now open.

Earlier State Highway 3 is CLOSED north of Hāwera following a truck roll near Kerry Lane.

Motorists should expect delays and be prepared to detour.

Traffic management is in place and drivers should follow directions from crews at the scene.

⚠️🚧 Lower Kohuratahi Bridge in remote eastern Taranaki has been closed to vehicles after engineers warned its deteriorating condition could lead to structural failure.

The 1938 bridge provides access for residents, farmers, beekeeping operations and Department of Conservation land. Replacing it could cost over $1 million, with no reopening date given.
