It’s Wills Month.

There’s more to a good Will than putting your wishes on paper. At ABMM, we believe in Wills done well – clear advice, careful consideration and a Will that reflects what actually matters to you.

Throughout September, we’ll be sharing some of the things worth thinking about when making or updating your Will.

Basic Wills from $299 + GST for an individual or $499 + GST for a couple.

Thinking about making or updating your Will? Share a few details through the form at abmm.co.nz/wills and we’ll be in touch.

Rotokare Sanctuary has been nominated by Auld Brewer Mazengarb & McEwen to take part in the 10x10 New Plymouth crowdfunding event, hosted by Perpetual Guardian, and we’d love your support.

This special evening brings together three inspiring local charities for a fast-paced night of storytelling, connection and collective giving. Each charity will have five minutes to pitch, followed by the opportunity for guests to direct their giving tokens to the organisation that speaks to them most.

Only 100 tickets are available. A $100 donation secures your place on the night and includes drinks, canapés and two $50 giving tokens to pledge toward the causes you want to support.

Event details:
Date: Tuesday 8 September 2026
Doors open: 5.00pm
Event starts: 5.30pm
Venue: Monica’s Eatery, corner King & Queen Streets, New Plymouth

By attending, you’ll be helping raise funds and awareness for community organisations doing meaningful mahi across Taranaki, including Rotokare’s ongoing work to protect and restore our treasured reserve.

They don't know what Taranaki will need next. But they know their gift will be there when it does. 🏔️💛

When Loren Anderson and Joel Zimmerman sat down to update their wills after the birth of their son Abel, their lawyer Scott Chamberlain asked a simple question. Had they thought about leaving a gift to their community?

The answer was an easy yes.

Taranaki is where both their families' stories began. Loren's have been farming here since the 1800s, and Joel's arrived from Poland and settled in Inglewood. So they set up a fund through Taranaki Foundation with a broad purpose, deliberately built to support wherever the need is greatest, whenever that need shows up in the future.

As Joel puts it "I'm confident that our gift will go to where the greatest need is at the time. We realise the problems of today might be different to the problems of tomorrow."

It's Wills Month. This is one of many stories we will be sharing, starting with Loren and Joel's. You can read it below. 💛 https://taranakifoundation.org.nz/our-stories/they-dont-know-what-taranaki-will-need-but-they-know-they-want-their-gift-to-be-there-to-help/

Buying or selling a business? Your lawyer can do more than review the deal.

We often see people get well down the track of a business sale or purchase before seeking legal advice, after key terms have already been agreed. By then, there may be little room to address problems without reopening the negotiations.

Getting legal advice early means we can help shape the agreement, identify potential issues before they become problems, and make sure the proposed transaction works commercially.

Good legal advice doesn't just review the deal. It can help you build a better one.

📢 The Skilled Migrant Category Resident Visa is changing on 24 August 2026.

With new pathways and changes to points and wage threshold rules, the changes could make residency more accessible for some skilled migrants. Including a new trades and technicians pathway.

We break down what’s changing and who may benefit.

💛 Help decide where $30,000 of charitable funding goes.

We’re proud to support a special charity evening hosted by Perpetual Guardian on 8 September at Monica’s Restaurant.

Three local charities will share the work they do in our community and how additional funding could help them do even more.

On the night, attendees will receive funding tokens to allocate to the charity they’d most like to support, with the goal of creating a funding pool of around $30,000. Every charity will receive a share.

The event is open to the public. You can register by donating through the Givealittle page, or make a donation even if you can’t attend.

👉 Register or donate: https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/attend-the-next-10x10-new-plymouth-crowdfunding

Every contribution helps support local organisations doing great work in our community.

Together, we can help them do even more.

Clear advice means more than knowing the answer.

It means explaining what matters, why it matters, and what happens next.

We believe good legal advice should be practical, honest and give you certainty.
