📣 Great news for our Tongan community!

A brand-new Visa Application Centre (VAC) is opening in Nuku’alofa on 14 September 2026. This centre, operated by VFS Global on behalf of Immigration New Zealand, will make it much easier for people in Tonga to access NZ visa services locally.

✨ What this means:

You can submit paper visa applications and supporting documents in person.

Longer opening hours and easy online appointment booking.

All RSE (Recognised Seasonal Employer) visa applications must be submitted through the new VAC from 14 September.

Passport scanning services available on-site.

Just a heads-up!

From 13 July 2026, all parts of an Occupational English Test must be completed at a supervised testing centre and can no longer be completed online.

INZ will still accept computer‑based Occupational English Tests that are completed on or before 12 July 2026 (New Zealand Standard Time).

On the same topic, Skill LEvel 3 Occupations (e.g. carpenters, motor mechanics, etc.) are also required to sit an English Test for the purpose of a Work Visa AND Residence.

🌏 Visitor Visa Fees Reduced for Pacific Nationals

From 1 June 2026, eligible Pacific nationals applying for a Visitor Visa from outside New Zealand will pay $161 instead of $216.

The reduction applies to citizens of Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and other Pacific nations.

A small but welcome saving for Pacific families planning a trip to New Zealand.

🎓 New Work Visa Option for Level 5–7 Graduates from 16 November 2026!

Good news for international students studying eligible Level 5–7 qualifications in New Zealand.

From 16 November 2026, some graduates who do not qualify for a Post-Study Work Visa may be eligible for a new 6-month Short-term Graduate Work Visa (SGWV).

Other changes include:
✅ Graduate diploma holders who already hold a bachelor's degree (including one obtained overseas) may now qualify for a Post-Study Work Visa.
✅ Graduate diploma holders may be granted a Post-Study Work Visa for up to 12 months, depending on the length of study completed in New Zealand.

Important:
• You must have studied full-time in New Zealand for at least 24 weeks.
• English language, foundation and bridging programmes are excluded.
• Applications must be submitted within 3 months of your student visa expiring.

This could create additional opportunities to gain New Zealand work experience and explore longer-term visa pathways.
