In late 2026:

A new 6-month Short-term Graduate Work Visa will be introduced for eligible NZQCF Level 5-7 graduates who do not qualify for a Post Study Work Visa. Graduates must have studied full-time for at least 24 weeks in New Zealand. English language, foundation, and bridging qualifications are not included.

Post Study Work Visa eligibility will be extended to New Zealand graduate diploma holders who also hold a bachelor’s degree (including bachelor’s degrees outside New Zealand). The work visa may be granted for the duration the student spent studying their graduate diploma in New Zealand, up to a maximum of 1 year.

The government has introduced two new pathways to residence for skilled migrants, starting from mid-next year. To be eligible, migrants must meet the following requirements:
- Skilled Work Experience path: employed in ANZSCO Level 1-3 roles, earning at least 1.1 times the median wage, and having five years of relevant work experience, including two years in New Zealand.
- Trades and Technician pathway: in specific ANZSCO Level 1-3 roles, earning at or above the median wage, holding a Level 4 or above qualification, and having four years of experience, including one-and-a-half years in New Zealand.

As of 01 April 2025, No Immigration application or request put forward on behalf of another person by an unlicensed immigration adviser may be accepted, unless the adviser is either licensed or exempt under Immigration Advisers Licensing Act 2007. If an application or request is accepted automatically in error or for any other reason, the application must be refused. Always choose a Licensed Immigration Adviser or an exempt person to do your visa application or request.

Starting 10 March 2025, employers are only required to offer AEWV employees the market rate for a role, rather than the median wage. This applies to new hirings only, current AEWV holders should continue to be paid in line with their employment agreements and visa conditions.
