Bramwell Bate Lawyers

Bramwell Bate Lawyers With origins dating back to the 1920’s, Bramwell Bate provides a wide range of Legal Services to the Hawke’s Bay

About us
Our team of around 30 have significant experience providing first class legal services to clients in Hawke’s Bay and throughout the country. Our Directors work alongside a team of highly skilled Associates, Solicitors and Legal Executives, all supported by an outstanding administrative crew. With a broad range of expertise ranging from conveyancing, corporate and commercial law, employment law, to family law and criminal law, Bramwell Bate is one of the only full-service law firms in Hawke’s Bay. As a team, Bramwell Bate has come together and agreed on five core values. We pride ourselves in being “trusted, approachable, caring, resilient & progressive”. Our values reflect what we prioritise in everyday practice. They motivate how we work with our clients, what we look for in our recruitment processes and our growing relationships within the local community. Where we come from
Bramwell Bate is a result of a merger in January 2017 between two well-known and established Hawke’s Bay firms – Bate Hallett (established in 1917) and Bramwell Grossman (tracing back to the 1950s). Both firms shared a deep commitment to client service, and the merger in 2017 was a seamless fit, strategically, culturally, and professionally. We are proud to be one of the longest standing law firms in Hawke’s Bay. Our history, as part of the community, reflects in our ability to cater efficiently to our client’s needs. We are open-minded and adapt not only to changes in the law, but also to the exciting developments within our team and new technologies.

Most people put this off... Not because they don't care, but because it's uncomfortable.

This week is 'Dying Matters Week', run by Cranford Hospice to open up honest conversations about death, dying and planning ahead.

As part of it, Christine from our team is talking Wills & EPOAs - twice. Put plainly: a Will looks after what you leave behind. An EPOA looks after you while you're still here but can't decide for yourself.

Catch her Friday 11 September, 12:30-1:15pm at the Octagon Room, Taradale Anglican Church (23 Puketapu Rd, Taradale, Napier), or come find us Saturday 12 September at the Dying Matters Week Expo - Hastings Elim Church, 405 Victoria Street, Hastings. Both are free to attend, and we'd love to help you get the difficult questions sorted.

And, if you're reading this knowing you've still got that Will to sort... you know where to find us!

Meet Jordan: first home, first feature wall, first letterbox with an actual name (it's Gerald).

Six weeks post-settlement, and there's one document that Jordan never got... The LIM report.

Some species inspect every inch of a new territory before settling in. Jordan settled for "the light in the kitchen is nice."

Turns out, there's no limit to how much Jordan loves this house. There's just no LIM to go with it.

What a night!

Huge congratulations to every finalist and winner at this year's Hastings City Business Awards - it was special seeing so much of Hawke's Bay's business community celebrated in one room.

We came away runner-up in Professional Service of the Year, and we're so proud just to be recognised by our own community.

Thank you to our clients, our team, and everyone who's backed us along the way. Hastings City, you do these events so well.

Meet Kelly: two kids, one mortgage, a Friday w**e routine that's never once let her down.

Some species migrate thousands of kilometres to survive. Kelly can't migrate a sticky note from the fridge to an actual will.

Turns out, where there's a will, there's a way. Where there's a sticky note, there's just a sticky note.

Life's Fine Print, Ep. 1 of 4. New one dropping soon 👀

Hawke's Bay, we've got a little good news to share!

Bramwell Bate has been named a finalist for Professional Service of the Year in the 2026 Hastings City Business Awards.

Whatever happens on the night, this one means a lot to us. It's recognition of the work our whole team puts in every day, and of the trust so many Hawke's Bay families and businesses have placed in us over the years - sometimes for generations.

That trust is really what this is about.

Winners are announced this Friday at the celebration awards evening... Wish us luck!

Hawke's Bay showed up big for last Thursday's Profit Unleashed.

These events are always a brilliant reminder of just how much talent we've got right here in our own backyard. A big thanks to Emma, Mike and Blair for such honest, practical korero, and to the team at The Profit for pulling together a sell-out crowd of the region's business community.

We're proud sponsors of Profit Unleashed, and we're already counting down to the next one.

We spend our days telling clients not to put things off. Turns out we're just as guilty of it ourselves - case in point, it's taken us this long to start an Instagram account.

Better late than never, though, right? 👀

We're Bramwell Bate - a proudly Hawke's Bay full-service law firm that's been looking after local families and businesses for generations (and yes, we've been here on Facebook the whole time - Instagram's just taken us a little longer).

Fifteen years behind the rest of the internet. Completely on brand - we've always preferred getting it right over getting it done fast.

Come find us over on Instagram too: and follow along for the people, the place, and (occasionally) the fine print.
