Norris Ward McKinnon is proud to have sponsored the National Family Law Moot, which returned to the Waikato over the weekend of 22 and 23 August 2026, after a four-year hiatus.

We were pleased to welcome teams from each of the six law schools around the country to compete in what proved to be a tightly contested competition.

A big thank you to his Honour Judge Collin and her Honour Judge Grimes who judged our final on Sunday, together with Norris Ward McKinnon Partner Jo Naidoo. Congratulations to the victorious University of Auckland mooters, Sarah Platt and Shweta Mann, who were crowned national champions at the closing event held at NWM offices.

Congratulations to all the competitors and thank you to the members of the local bar and Family Court bench who volunteered their time and expertise to judge the competition – including her Honour Judge Tan, her Honour Family Court Associate Gunn, Stephanie Ambler, Catherine Starr, Reuben Gubb, David Mayall, Andrew Hong, Kay Hoult, and Emma Cooney.

Today we celebrated our very own Gill Whinray and her 40 years at NWM!

As an Associate and Senior Registered Legal Executive, Gill has spent four decades helping individuals, families and investors navigating one of their biggest steps forward — always with expertise, calm and top-quality service.

As one of our longest-standing staff, Gill has seen the firm through many changes, and it's a privilege to work alongside someone with the knowledge and expertise she's built over the years.

But as Gill herself put it, the real highlight has been the people: the clients who've trusted her along the way, and the colleagues who've shared the journey.

Here's to you, Gill — 40 years of exceptional work!

Kirikiriroa Marathon Relay done and dusted! ✅

Our NWM men’s and women’s teams took on the 42km Kirikiriroa Marathon Relay on Saturday and did an awesome job! A huge effort from all our runners, and an even bigger thank you to our family and colleagues who came along to support us.

A great day, a great team effort, and we’re already looking forward to lining up again next year. 🏃‍♂️‍➡️

The deadline for incorporated societies to re-register under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022 (Act) has now passed. If your society did not re-register in time, it has likely ceased to exist as a legal entity.

Last Friday we headed out for our firm's annual tradition - staff picnic at Norris Ward Park. 🌲

Every year we love taking a moment to step away from our desks, soak up some fresh air, and share a lunch together. This year we were treated to a delicious lunch by Weave Eatery .

All parties were in agreement- a great afternoon! 😁
