It's one of the most common instructions people give when preparing a will.
What many don't realise is that simply including an age in your will may not be enough.

Depending on how the will is drafted, a beneficiary could be entitled to their inheritance much earlier than expected.

Congratulations to Charlotte Muggeridge on being named a finalist for the Emerging Leader of the Year category in the The New Zealand Legal Excellence Awards.

Judges described choosing this year's finalists as picking “the excellent of the excellent”, making Charlotte's recognition even more impressive.

Charlotte leads our Environmental Law team, is an excellent mentor, and contributes to the wider community with expertise, generosity, and a genuine commitment to making a difference. Anyone who knows Charlotte knows this achievement is well deserved.

Congratulations to The Honourable Christine Grice on her reappointment to the High Court.

Justice Grice has returned to the High Court to rehear specific proceedings under the Marine and Coastal Area (Takutai Moana) Act 2011, over which she previously presided.

Before joining the bench, Justice Grice was a partner at Harkness Henry. She went on to serve on the High Court of the Cook Islands and the High Court of New Zealand.

Her contribution to the law in Aotearoa was recognised in 2004 when she was appointed a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (CNZM). More recently, on 11 September 2026, she was granted the title ‘The Honourable’ for life.

We’re proud to see a former Harkness Henry partner continuing to make an important contribution to the law in Aotearoa.

We’re thrilled to celebrate Isabel and Mia’s admission to the bar! 🍾🪅

Both have worked incredibly hard to reach this milestone and can now officially take on the title of Solicitor.

Reflecting on the occasion, Isabel said she feels “relieved and grateful”, knowing that the years of study and hard work have paid off. She would like to thank her family, friends, and the firm for their support throughout her journey.

Mia shared that while she is relieved to have completed this step, she is especially excited for the future and continuing to learn and grow professionally. She would like to thank the Harkness Henry team, for their continued guidance, mentorship, and support throughout.

Congratulations, Isabel and Mia. We are incredibly proud of you both and look forward to seeing what you achieve in your legal careers.
