Pathwaysยฎ recently presented at the Special Interest Group for Immigrant Engineers (SIGIE) hosted by Engineering New Zealand (ENZ). New Zealandโs immigration settings for engineers are becoming more structured, with changes coming into effect from 24 August 2026.
While demand remains strong, thereโs now greater emphasis on qualifications, salary thresholds, and employer compliance. It is important for engineering professionals and employers to understand the options available to them when it comes to immigration.
Key visa pathways:
โข Accredited Employer Work Visa โ main entry pathway for overseas engineers
โข Green List pathways โ most direct route to residence for eligible roles
โข Specific Purpose Work Visa โ flexible option for project-based or short-term work
Success now depends on careful planning and aligning skills, roles, and immigration settings early, for both employers and engineers.
