Community Law Waikato (formerly The Hamilton District Community Law Centre) was set up in 1995 to provide free legal help to people who are unable to afford access to justice. We operate in the Waikato area and are one of 24 community law centres nationwide. Our staff includes 2 solicitors in management and can operate on their own account, 7 Solicitors, 2 advocates who support people with Work &

Income, 1 administrator and full reception team along with a Community Liaison. Although we are a community organisation, our clients expect and deserve a quality service which is confidential, timely and efficient, and at a professional standard which compares with that which they would receive from a private practitioner. We always strive to deliver a friendly and high standard of service to our clients. Our Centre has a client eligibility policy to ensure that our services are targeted at the identified unmet legal need. The eligibility policy takes into account financial means and legal aid eligibility. In the event that an individual does not meet the criteria we refer them to local solicitors or firms. Our services include information, advice, assistance, representation and legal education. We assist with many areas of law including minor criminal matters (such as traffic offences); employment; consumer; debt; neighbourhood disputes; tenancy; ACC, WINZ; Immigration and insurance. We also have an advocate who can help with Work and Income issues. Our office is located in Hamilton and we can help people living in the entire Waikato roopu. All appointments can be made by phoning 0800 529482, emailing [email protected] or through our website https://www.clwaikato.org.nz/

We are located at Level 2, 109 Angelsea Street in Hamilton (across the road from the Court House)

We are doing our best to complete the renovations as soon as possible, but for the moment we have limited interview rooms available to see clients.

Calls and online appointments are preferred during this time. Please call reception if you have any queries 0800 529 482.

Waha was created alongside youth, teachers, and legal experts and supported by The Michael and Suzanne Borrin Foundation. Five South Auckland schools are piloting Waha in their year 9-10 classes during term two, and then it will roll out nationally. To find out more, check out www.waha.org.nz and follow Waha!

It was an honour and privilege to be part of celebrating a successful residency for a local Tongan whaanau. A positive example of community collaboration 👏

Today was one of those truly special days today.

Nearly two years ago, my office began advocating with Immigration NZ to support a family seeking to have their parents remain here and secure Permanent Residency.

These processes take time (as they should) but that doesn’t make the journey any easier. For families, it can bring real uncertainty, stress, and challenges around life, support, and health.

Today, we celebrated a positive outcome.

There were prayers, tears, and beautiful Tongan songs, all wrapped in the korowai of K'aute Pasifika Trust.

Behind every immigration decision is a real family, a real story, and a future worth fighting for.
