Family Unity At Last For Daisy and Stephen! :)
Congrats Daisy on obtaining your NZ Resident Visa! The milestone marked an end to many years of disappointment and anguish for Daisy and Stephen who are forced to live apart. The grant of residency finally gave the couple stability and normalcy in their marriage and they are now able to raise their son, Karl, together.
We made an appeal – a second one – to the Associate Minister of Immigration to grant an exception to immigration instructions because Stephen and Daisy could not satisfy INZ’s partnership temporary or partnership residence instructions. She cannot obtain a Resident Visa because Stephen, a New Zealander, had previously supported 2 successful residency applications for his former partners. That immigration rule prohibits him from supporting a third partnership residency application, in this case, for Daisy.
The first ministerial appeal was turned down without a reason, as Stephen wrote below. We were just as devastated as them.
Last year, Stephen decided to make a second ministerial appeal. We felt strongly for their case as the immigration rule was punishing the family unfairly. We submitted a lot of evidence to show Stephen’s and Daisy’s long, stable and enduring relationship; and appealed that an exception to instruction be made so that the family can be together permanently and for Karl’s best interests who has started schooling in NZ.
In March 2025, the Associate Minister of Immigration responded with the grant of a Resident Visa to Daisy as an exception to instructions, subject to her meeting the requirements of the Partnership category. She was given 3 months to submit a residency application. And last month, Daisy was granted a Resident Visa.
Here is what Stephen has to stay:
“I thought I could stay in 2 countries but it wasn't possible, with a business to run in New Zealand. Karl our son was born in 2014, we were so happy. Life goes on with great difficulty until we contacted Derek and Kwan of Best Value Visa to try and get residency for Daisy.
I thought the visa application was very well done, told our story, applied for the rights of a child to have two parents and felt we had every hope of success. We were astounded, shocked, mortified when it was turned down without even a reason. I can't blame Daisy. My previous relationships were the problem. Daisy couldn’t start a life; she didn't even feel like making friends with anyone when she had to go back every 6-9 months, couldn’t work, really had no hope.
After Covid, Daisy and Karl came back to New Zealand for 9 months and we decided for Daisy to study a course in healthcare and wellbeing for 6months, and she passed. We believed this helped our case.
Time passed and the government showed signs of knowing immigration is important to the country.
We decided to try an application again and being very happy with Derek and Kwan's earlier work, I asked them to make another application for residency for Daisy on our behalf.
It was Derek and Kwan's decision as to how they approached the application and I thought the move to get me forgiven for my previous marriages was very telling to the eventual outcome and success of the application.
We are so happy to have Daisy with the residency! She can start her life, work, have security, make friends and, most of all, complete our marriage and family.
Thank you so much Derek and Kwan. I consider this would never have happened without your skill and integrity. I can highly recommend you to others needing similar services.
Your sincerely,
Steve, Daisy & Karl
