Had such a great day at the EBS Summit in Queenstown last week! The guest speaker was Michael Henderson, a corporate anthropologist and workplace culture specialist.

I soaked up the knowledge like a sponge - is it legal advice? No, but the “correct legal process” doesn’t take place in a vacuum and I know my clients have other considerations when deciding what to do.

No employment issue is the same so you want an employment specialist who thinks outside the textbook 😉📱

EPISODE 2 in the employment amendments breakdown | We’re looking at the gateway test. This is designed to make it clearer who is a contractor and who is an employee - the issue is that people who would currently be classified as casual employees (including uber drivers 👀) would now be classified as contractors. This means that, objectively, this is a reduction in rights for those workers.

The new Modern Slavery bill co-sponsored by a national and a labour MP is going to bring New Zealand’s modern slavery laws in step with a lot of other countries around the world. Brooke van Velden’s refusal to support it it, yes, peculiar, but also has paved the way for the Bill to bypass the usual process for members bill due to the backing across party lines. We love to see a bit of bipartisanship these days! More chit chats to come when the draft bill is released
